  • Ah, I misread your original post, thought you said you ran 3 times a week. I can't really give you a workout plan, but here's some pointers: - Nothing inherently wrong with running every day. However, it can cause extra strain to your body if you aren't used to it, which is why many people take 1-2 days off and cross…
  • Running, swimming, and biking use very different muscles. Running is also a weight-bearing exercise which can make it difficult if you have any extra pounds (Not saying you do, just stating a fact). Sounds like you are a strong swimmer/cyclist, so it is awkward for you to do poorly at running, even though everyone has to…
  • Why do you want to cut back on running? What do you mean by "too much cardio"? What do you hope to get from walking/bike that running doesn't give you? Why not just up your running mileage instead? And by up your mileage I don't mean HIIT, I mean steady pace until your endurance is increased.
  • Yes, let's judge all bodybuilders as close-minded because they are different than you. Yes, this is exactly what PF does. PF is extremely hypocritical - they claim to be "judgment free" except they judge all bodybuilders. I'd stay far, far away from the hypocrisy that is PF.
  • Yes... eat less, exercise more.
  • I am disappointed in you. Should have sent the chocolate to me, I would have taken it.
  • Sounds really really unhealthy. Not going to get all the macro/micronutrients you need. Also you'd get sick of it really fast and more likely to binge. No thanks.
  • Read http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/865024-1200-and-why-it-won-t-work /thread
  • Losing weight is basically just eating fewer calories than your burn, whether you do low carb or not. Don't listen to anyone who tells you that low carb is the ONLY or the BEST way to lose weight, it's pure crap. Do what works best for you, as long as it fits macros etc.
  • OP is exactly right. It has nothing to do with genetics or being "blessed" with a fast metabolism, it's a lot of little things that contribute to not gaining weight. Thin people stay skinny because, put simply, they don't eat that much - they understand portion sizes. As for the people that seemingly eat like crazy and…
  • This is false. You can do 20 just fine. You don't need to do cardio to maintain your weight, as long as you hit your calories/macros. However, it DOES help if you like to eat more, and I'd do cardio/lifting just for the toned look and fitness that it provides.
  • Correcting wrong information =/= negativity. Stop being so sensitive. Don't like it, don't post wrong information. Mikaela: No, because technically, you still have fat everywhere even if the stomach is the most visible.
  • No one claims them as "facts", just guidelines for the general person trying to lose weight. For the MAJORITY of people, it is IMPORTANT to follow those guidelines. You have to look at the context of WHY people give that kind of advice, not just take it as absolute fact. The reason slow weight loss is recommended is…
  • NO YOU CANNOT SPOT LOSE FAT. PERIOD.
  • Sigh. Losing weight is eating fewer calories than you burn. Not much else to it. Has nothing to do with reducing carbs. And yes, I have lost weight without reducing carbs, by eating less and exercising more.
  • This, "healthy" is determined more by your diet, exercise, and other measurements like heart rate, cholesterol, blood pressure, etc.
  • It's impossible to spot lose fat. Just continue losing weight. For many people belly fat is the last to go.
  • Complete and utter BS, and just another lame excuse to put blame on someone other than themselves. America is getting fatter because people are eating more and moving less, period, has nothing to do with lame stuff like EC. In reality, being colder actually burns MORE calories than being warm, since your your body has to…
  • If you don't enjoy exercise and you don't care for the fitness and tone that it provides, then don't do it. Exercise is meant as a SUPPLEMENT to weight loss, but the majority of weight loss comes from diet. I do it because I don't just want to lose weight, I want to look more toned, gain fitness, because I enjoy it, and so…
  • How are you keeping track of the calories you're eating? How are you keeping track of the calories your burning? I can guarantee you that 90% of the people who say they can't lose weight are underestimating their calorie intake and overestimating their calories burned. Eat less, exercise more. Simple as that. Yes, some…
  • The majority of the time in my experience, getting cramps has to do with the person not breathing correctly. Yes, diet and hydration plays a part as well, but the most important is breathing correctly. Make sure you're taking deep breaths, and you breathe through your NOSE AND MOUTH.
  • If I walk to my fridge to get a sandwich, that counts as aerobic exercise, right? If I'm driving my car, the time turning the steering wheel should be logged, right? brb, all this typing is expending a lot of energy, need to log this as well. Come on, people. Whatever happened to ENJOYING things like playing with your dog?
  • I don't carry anything with me. Don't need phone when you run, what are you going to do with it. Never liked carrying ipods, they're just a distraction. As for keys, I just throw them into a nearby bush where no one can find it.
  • Because I run 40+ miles a week, weight train at least 3 times a week plus occasionally play soccer/basketball/volleyball/ultimate Pretty sure that qualifies as very active
  • If you are very overweight, it might be better to start off walking/swimming/elliptical. Make sure your form when running is correct. Don't overstride, don't stomp, etc. Many knee injuries come from poor form. Ice it. Rest for now, if the pain comes back then try considering other cardio until you lose more weight.
  • They obviously aren't doing the job if you're getting blisters. Get a pair of good running shoes. Make sure your socks aren't cotton. Any cotton and you'll get blisters. I suggest going to a running store and just plunking down the money for shoes/socks there. It'll make your life so much easier. Only pop the blister if…
  • When you're starting out running you NEVER EVER WORRY ABOUT PACE. YOUR PACE DOESN'T MATTER AS LONG AS YOU FINISH IT. Work on getting your mileage up and you'd be amazed at how much faster you've gotten.
  • Toe lifts, toe tapping, heel walking, do this every day and you'll never get shin splints again Make sure your running form is correct, ie. don't stomp on the ground and don't overstride Make sure your running shoes aren't too worn out, running on grass helps But really, just do strengthening exercises, once I did that I…
  • http://www.runnersworld.com/running-tips/lung-power?page=single A lot of beginners are told to "breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth when running" - This is terrible advice, and one of the biggest reasons so many people get cramps while running.
  • I've been a runner for 12 years, running upwards of 50-60 miles a week and I haven't spent a single mile of it on a treadmill. Those things are so awful. I'd rather cross train on the elliptical than do treadmill.
