  • Banana with cashew butter.
  • Great job, OP! My running group does this too. Along with longer distances, hills and trail runs, all with the goal to increase speed. When I started running in June, I was struggling to run 2mi at a 14 minute pace. Now I can easily run 6mi at a 12 minute pace. I'm not "fast" but I'm getting there. :)
  • Lots of great advice here. Check your shoes, ice (20 mins on, 20 mins off every 3 hrs or so), stretch. The best stretch for me to sit down and write the alphabet (upper and lower!) with my leg lifted and toes pointed so my ankle and calf are doing most of the work. One other thing to consider is the floor. Laminate over…
  • I think you've gotten enough advice about stretching, so I'll ask about your shoes. How old are they and have you been properly fitted for running shoes?
  • Take it out of the library for free and see for yourself?
  • Play with the settings a bit. There should be a power save mode you can use if battery life is an issue. FWIW, I have an iPhone 4 and I can use Runtastic for at least an hour and still have 40% of my battery left.
  • As a beginning runner, I highly recommend visiting your local running stores and see if they offer group runs or training groups. I joined a training group in June and I can't recommend it enough. We run in pace groups with coaches and mentors, so there is a lot of camaraderie and support. I hate winter and I just signed…
  • I haven't done Insanity or Tapout and I never consistently did P90X (too much of a time commitment for me), CLX, Turbo Jam or Turbo Fire, but I have stuck with Les Mills Combat. It's a great workout, IMO. There is a enough variety in the workouts (get the Ultimate pack) and I think it's definitely the most adaptive for all…
  • I like to use 30DS for two-a-days. I do 30DS in the am and then 30 minutes of cardio in the pm.
  • I've been around and still doing Combat, just haven't accessed the web version of MFP in awhile. Since January I have lost a total of 9lbs (5.64%) and my eating hasn't been the cleanest. :glasses: Usually by this point, I would have given up on whatever program I had started, so I guess Dan and Rach are a good fit for me.
  • Hi all, Been a bit under the weather this past week and my exercise routine has suffered as a result. I set my alarm this morning and slept right through it (it's a sunrise clock , no beeps) so no time to slip in a workout this am. Hoping I can juggle a few things around this afternoon to squeeze in some Combat. Any…
  • Nice job! Sorry I haven't been around, I have had problems logging into the website even though I can access my acct via phone. Looks like tech support got that fixed for me finally! I did Combat 30 last night. I woke in the middle of the night in crazy pain. It kinda feels like a crick in the neck, but located under my…
  • Did not like. :( I know it will get easier, but yuck. My confusion is hindering my burn, so I'm going to something this afternoon. Either hit the gym or CLX. Happy Friday, everyone!
  • Definitely trust your HRM on this one. We have the Xbox/Kinect version and it's killer because it also tracks your foot movements. Over the Christmas break, the boys had me playing it just about every day and I was dying after 30 minutes. Have you played (I've had) The Time of my LIfe yet? Hilarious. DH and I had my mother…
  • Glad you got some extra rest! I was looking forward to a rest day too, but I had a little too much fun at happy hour last night. I think I'm just doing to do some low-key cardio tonight.
  • I'm the same height. When I was in my late 20s, I was about 185lbs and decided to try Weight Watchers. The one thing that really stuck with me from WW was to aim to lose 10% of your current weight and then reassess your goals. So my advice to you is to lose 19lbs and see how you feel. If you feel you need to lose more, go…
  • In my case, the weight side of the gym is just plain intimidating. It's pretty easy to figure out a treadmill or an elliptical without looking like an idiot and stay on it for the 30 minute maximum. With weights, in theory, it's easy. Pick up, put down, but how many sets? How heavy? Am I in the way? Did I break some secret…
  • Definitely my favorite workout so far! No burpees!!!!! :P I did feel a little lost at times. I do the best at the end of a set when you're just doing the complete routine. I get so confused when they switch from eight punches or kicks to four, then to two. I guess I need to start counting along until I memorize the…
  • Ok, I loved the first half of this workout, but didn't make it through all the Burpees. I did keep moving and jumped right back in with the hover work though. I was a bit (very) sore when I woke this morning but now feel loosened up. Hope I stay that way!
  • Check out Yoga Socks.
  • Looks like everyone is off to a good start! I got my Combat 30 workout done this morning, too. I'm hoping once I get the routine nailed, I'll get a bigger burn. I burned 262 cals just flailing, so it's all good! Here are my starting stats: weight: 156.5 lb chest: 41 in arms: 12 in waist: 39 in hips: 42 in thighs:…
  • Another option other than dry shampoo is to use Aveda Pure Abundance Style Prep spray in the morning when you do your hair. It's meant to volumize fine hair (which it does very well) so it contains cornstarch. The cornstarch seems to absorb a good deal of moisture when I work out and I've noticed that my hair doesn't go…
  • Thanks, Sharon. Will do! Lo
  • I did. I gained it and now I have to lose it.
  • I'm Laura, but since we already have a Laura, I'll go with my childhood nickname of Lo. I'm 38 and live in western NY. I have two boys (6 and 8), I work full-time as a technology project manager and am a tax widow. I'm looking forward to starting Combat! I have done a few Beachbody programs (Turbo Jam, Turbo Fire, and CLX)…
  • This is my favorite way to eat lentils. http://www.theppk.com/2011/05/ancho-lentil-tacos/
  • I do. Just don't expect the same kind of burn as you would from cardio.
  • Move by Mims. I have this queued to play at the 25 minute mark of my cardio play list and it really gets me through the "I'm tired" phase of my workout.
  • Hi Everyone! I have started and stopped TurboFire (as well as TurboJam) about five or six times now as I work full-time, have two kids, and a husband who travels/works crazy hours for part of the year. Now that I given my list of excuses (ha!), I'm hoping you guys can help keep me stay committed to TF for more than a week…
  • I'm struggling with producing meals the both of us will eat too, since my husband does prefer to have meat with every meal. The best combo meals I have found for us so far are: Homemade Pizzas (he does meat, I do veg) Parmesan (he does chicken, I do eggplant) Tacos (he does ground turkey, I do lentils) Burritos (he uses…
