  • Compulsive over eater/ binge eater most of my adult life. Lost weight and regained it in my 30s, now 57. Changed my eating habits September 2013. Began exercising regularly January 2014. Now maintaining a weight loss of 42.5kgs (93 lbs) since June 2015. I weigh and measure my food the majority of the time - doesn't bother…
  • Hi, I'm 57 and have been using MFP for over 2 years. I have lost 42.5 kgs (93.5lbs). I swim about 4 times a week. I feel 20 years younger. I weigh and measure all my food and when I go out to dinner I estimate and occasionally go over my allocated calories. I am concentrating on maintaining my weight loss and hope I might…
  • 118.5kgs (261 lbs) September 2013 75.9kgs (167 lbs) January 2016, maintaining for over 12 months.
  • I'm basically maintaining now. I am eating enough to feel that I can keep doing what I am doing. I exercise 4-5 times a week. (between 1400-1700 cals) I could probably lose a bit more (I have lost 43kgs- 94lbs). My BMI is still considered overweight, but I think there might be a few more kilos I could lose to be ideal…
  • Wonderful. You must feel fantastic, so healthy!!!!!
  • I can say that at 56 I am getting a handle on my binge /emotional eating. The quit smoking campaign in Australia says "Every Time you quit you get a bit better at it". I think this is a helpful thing to remember. Before this time (started Sept. 2013) I had periods of up to 6 months or more free from binge/emotional eating…
  • My BMI states I am still overweight. I have lost 43kgs (94lbs) and am now quite fit - I swim 4-5 times a week often 3kms (60 laps). I'm happy with where I'm at. In a non-critical sense I can see that I could weigh less I'm open to the idea but I like my maintenance intake at this body size. So I am open to losing more…
  • I've over eaten on Christmas day and New Year's eve. I can't undo what I've done. I own it, I knew I was doing it, I chose it. I'm moving on from it. I won't beat myself up any further 'cause that's part of the problem. I'm maintaining my weight lose, minus what I have probably put on over Christmas. The biggest battle is…
  • I just saw your post. It is hard to stop compulsive eating. I have worked on it for many years on and off. I feel I am in a place now where I don't think this way most of the time. Resisting compulsion is difficult. But like any behavioural changes, if you keep working at it will get a little bit easier each time. You have…
  • I've lost 42kgs (around 93lbs). I would ideally like to lose a bit more but have slowed down to small amounts over long periods - I am aware that I am reluctant to eat less and or eat differently. I exercise regularly. I'm not complaining just explaining how I have "plateaued". I eat roughly the same but to be honest would…
  • You literally look at least 10 years younger.
  • Never give up. Its the only time we really fail. Keep a diary see what's bothering you. Don't overeat. Stick to a plan that works. Don't focus on weight loss, look at eating guidelines that make you feel comfortable. Some sort of routine you can follow.
  • I have felt that way many times. I have managed to change my thinking around this stuff slowly over the last couple of years. For a very long time (I am 56) I chose overeating as an emotional coping behaviour. I did eventually make a decision to stop overeating. I had stretches of success - 6 months here, 5 months there…
  • I'm maintaining a 90+lbs weightloss. Its weigh and measure my food. I accept I had no idea what enough was. I ate with a calorie deficit worked out by MFP. I log everything I eat regardless, I exercise regularly (now, I was very lazy before). I use portion control for treat style snacks ie kids size pack of grain…
  • When I realised it really was up to me to change. No one else was going to do it for me. My left knee was going to need replacing how much further was I going to go before changing.
  • I think like you say its very individual. I started out avoiding trigger foods like high sugar items or high fat processed food totally. This seemed to give me a sense of self control. and of course these foods aren't healthy. As time passed I decided to have some things in my life occasionally. I have found that for me,…
  • Don't give up, keep trying. Patience, so much patience with myself. I have changed, my eating is better than it has ever been in my entire life. Just for today.
  • This is me too. Night shift eating can give me indigestion. I have the odd drink of tea or coffee during the night and occasionally I may eat some toast around 0600hrs but usually not.
  • I have a sony underwater mp3 player that unfortunately just recently went on the fritz! after a year. So I swim now without, I found the player invaluable to break through barriers of "black line fever" and it helped me face the "neverendingness" of becoming a regular swimmer. I swim 5 times a week and do 2kms/ 40 laps.…
  • Hi guys! Just don't give up!!!! I've lost 41.3 kgs - 91lbs so far and mainly because I just kept going!!! I found exercise I actually can be bothered with, sometimes I don't want to do it, but I keep going! I stick to my food plan but even if I lose the plot (like I had too much cheesecake at Christmas) I just get back on…
  • I recently lost my two fur babies both 17 years old, about six months apart. We had the vet put them to sleep , I held them as we said good bye. This is very hard and emotional. If you can afford it end their life if there is no way back. Animals don't deserve to suffer. There is no hospice for them, they have to drag…
  • I eat higher than you and exercise. The weight loss will just slow down. Over the last 3 months I lost 1.5kgs(3.4lbs). 1.2 of those was in the first 18 days, I plateaued for 2 months and just lost 0.3kgs in just over a week. Nothing's linear. This is sustainable. I like what I eat and don't feel deprived I have lost a…
  • Never alone! I have been working on changing the way I eat now for 22 months. I use MFP every day, every day. I log all my food - good or bad. Overall I have changed the way I eat - one day at a time, I am now reasonably comfortable with my food plan and (for me) my calorie restrictions etc. I eat mainly unprocessed foods.…
  • Hi guys all the best.
  • Thats great. Every Time you try something different to manage your feelings your another step away from old behaviours. I exercise regularly and find that that is extremely useful for sort of automatically dealing with daily living. Like energy out, takes emotions with it!
  • HI, keep working on losing!

  • I quit smoking a long time ago but remember how difficult it could be. I wish you all the luck. It will get easier over time. Try eating healthy snacks.
