  • If it helps, you can just adjust the calories on the activity to be closer to reality.
  • You know- my daughter says I should NOT dance. I don't happen to agree with her, and I would be willing to bet your children are having similar young people thoughts my daughter has regarding appropriate activities for people our age. It's funny; laugh and go skate!
  • My husband lost his love handles when his BMI got to about 23%, but he was doing resistance training along with weight loss.
  • We did not switch countries, but we did just have a big move with a huge change in lifestyle. My weight jumped by three pounds and has stayed there, or strayed upward and down again. I've decided to do my best to hold here until things really do settle down. Stress is very hard on our bodies, and maintaining, even if you…
  • Eat exactly what I'm craving but in a moderate amount. That most often means a few squares of good chocolate.
  • The fattening thing is when you eat too much of them. For me, I am more likely to eat too much of these foods, so I kind of avoid them. The fattening thing is when you put more calories in your mouth than you burn. Regarding your question on what to eat after work, keep easy things around. Cheese, carrot sticks, packaged…
  • I like the one I have. It's a tennis skirt, and it made a huge difference in my comfort/modesty level when I was just getting into running and had 50 pounds still to lose.
  • Sure. As much as 4 pounds that will slough off between one day and the next.
  • Can you walk between classes or jobs for exercise? If you can find a way to feel more fit, the gym can be easier. I know that's a catch 22, but that's how I had to do it.
  • There was another thread about loose skin posted by a woman had pretty good pictures. You might search the forum on that. I'm a year into this and I definitely have loose skin, but I can also tell that the skin is getting better, like it will look worse and then better. And I'm in my 40s and have been overweight almost my…
  • Thanks for all the replies. I am watching the two videos. I do the squats at home, so I am barefoot. I will adjust foot position. My husband is very limber and easily rests his fanny against his heels with his knees pretty much together, so I thought that was my goal. Thanks for helping me move toward a good squat.
  • I like Fat Boy Slim's greatest hits.
  • Depends on what you consider "healthy" Some people don't think of animal products as healthy while I don't believe in supplements. Personally, I'd go the green, red meat, raw milk route which might be utterly repugnant to someone else. If you do a search on "high iron foods" or "calcium rich foods" or the like, you'll get…
  • A little weight training will make the biking better. And biking will make the weight training better. And weight training will make the biking better. And... Have fun! If you like biking, do it!
  • I think it's personal choice plus real life. For me, I feel best if I have done my workout by 11:00, but I often cannot do anything until late afternoon. As far as hunger goes, you might try a little more water or focus on protein right after your workout. Even something as small as a cheese stick might be enough to take…
  • Thanks for the replies. It's an issue with inflexibility in my thighs combined with fat being in the way on the backs of my legs. There is MUCH less fat a year later, and I am more flexible, so I have made progress. Just trying to sort out if I should be getting lower instead of focusing on flexibility. Thanks for the link!
  • We use You Are Your Own Gym, but there are many things like it. The app costs a little, but is very useful
  • I carefully monitor the calories that are included in alcohol. We have hard cider or wine about twice a month. I weigh daily. I always see a gain and then a very slow dip back down after we have alcohol- and I am not talking about much. I just assumed the alcohol triggered a little more water retention.
  • You could make it into a ritual. This is what I did when my children were small, and still set aside "coffee time". I grind the beans, I boil the water, I do a pour over (like french press). Then, this whole ritual is even better than sugar. I still use cream in my coffee, but it's delicious coffee and I can afford the…
  • FWIW, some (like me) do not see a big change in bra size until well into a weight loss journey. And it was definitely related to overall body fat. That band area was the last place I noticed much change in size. Working on muscle tone for the upper body, like push and pull exercises, will make a difference once there is…
  • A good wrap style carrier can make it easy to put her on your back. Then you can walk in pretty much anything. Ice was the only thing that stopped me when mine were that age. Walking = sanity :)
  • My husband gets a weird very small calorie adjustment that he just ignores. I have the same watch, settings on the app, etc, and I do not get it. I was getting double calories until I disconnected mfp from map my fitness, but it was obvious what was happening.
  • I'm now worried. I just don't look at other people past the polite eye contact thing. Then, I don't look. Really. I hoped that was standard etiquette. Ugh! Now I have to wonder if people are noticing my clothes. If I can't smell your clothes at the gym, I won't notice them. So, I wouldn't be offended.
  • Homemade soups travel well. I make tomato then add a little parmesan after it's heated.
  • I wonder if you would get better advice in the fitness/nutrition forum, as what you might benefit more from is a change in exercise routine rather than diet. I know that "great abs" are more often an issue of the kitchen rather than the gym, but maybe you've already dealt with the kitchen aspect well enough.
  • Do you ever have "cheat" days? I find when I get stuck for a couple of weeks, one day of less close watching seems to get things going right again. Maybe it's just that I need a break in order to be more honest the other days, or maybe my body just wanted a few more calories. I have lost a similar amount over a similar…
  • Roasted beets with a fried egg on top. I could eat this three meals a day right now.
  • Funny! "The paleo diet is not set in stone." Makin' me laugh!
  • I'll just throw in this- you can still THRIVE while losing weight. Crappy food can totally result in weight loss, but you probably will not remain robust in health and well-being. Different people thrive with different diets- as in the way they eat. As for the belly fat thing- you cannot tell your body "lose fat there!"…
  • We used a couple of these apps when we were getting into an exercise routine. They were good for building a good habit. But, I didn't notice any change is muscle tone or strength after 8-10 weeks of doing 2-4 reps 5 days a week. We switched to YAYOG (You Are Your Own Gym). I know it's not the most efficient way to work on…
