  • Hey everybody. I'm looking for some MFP buddies. I'm what you'd call a pro-dieter. Last year I lost the 22kg (44lbs+/-) and then I regained it ...again. so this time is about losing and keeping off. I lift, I cardio, I yoga. I prefer a low carb style diet with mostly whole foods. Oh I probably drink too much wine too.
  • Awesome weight loss!! I agree that the calorie deficit could have something to do with it, it is difficult to get proper nutrition with normal calories these days, and with a deficit of 1000 calories / day, I find that I have to be super good to get all my nutrients and I still need to supplement some things. I think it's…
  • I bought a pair of pants back in February when I started (too small and figured they'd be my goal pants) .... and on Friday I wore them and I'm only half way! I might need to buy another pair of goal pants
  • This needs to be tailored to your extremely specific needs I'm afraid. All aspects of your health & life need to be taken into consideration. As naturopaths we don't treat an illness, we treat the entire person. Everything has had a role to play in your current health issues, ie. we know your diabetic because you have…
  • Wouldn't be surprised if you do get off all the meds Bruce! Good luck!
  • I know of a man who suffered from TypeII diabetes and was on insulin for 45 years. . .his insulin dose had to gradually increase. He simply stopped eating carbohydrates for a while and went off insulin (I'm not saying this is a healthy thing to do, but it was his choice) he now still doesn't use insulin and is able to eat…
  • Agree - partially You could eat 4,000 calories a day but if with exercise you burn 5,000 you will still lose 2lbs a week. Simply whatever goes in needs to be less than what you use regardless of the amount .....
  • I absolutely LOVE the elliptical trainer... WHY you say? 1 - it burns A LOT of calories in not so much time 2 - it doesn't feel like it's hard work 3 - works more than just 1 muscle group On my cardio training days the elliptical trainer makes up almost 1/3 of my cardio work (the rest being treadmill, stationary bike,…
  • Agree that they will be feeling very uncomfortable because you have "stolen" their excuse (which probably is something along the lines of it's genetic, i'm big-boned, was born this way etc.)..... In a way, they might almost be annoyed with you for taking away their excuse...because when you're in the room (being from the…
  • It's "empty calories".. ....ie. all it provides is glucose, other carbs (for example brown rice) provides your body with other nutrients as well as glucose. There is also the whole GI factor - ie. how quickly is the glucose released into the bloodstream. Sugar is medium GI (not too bad) Honey happens to be low GI (good)…
  • Awesome Mike! I was just about to say... carbs are OK (I try to eat a low carb diet because it's quite good for the weight loss IF combined with exercise). I would definately try to go for LOW GI carbs....remember that if you combine HIGH GI foods with LOW GI foods you get MEDIUM GI foods. . .. it would be well worth it to…
  • Hell yeah! I would say "thanks, I've been working really hard to lose the weight and I'm really glad you noticed"....
  • You could try using Stevia instead of artificial sweetener - it is a naturally sweet herb and helps to stabilize your blood sugar levels (which is an added bonus for weight loss) Can't give any advice on coffee-creamer coz I use soy
  • You might need to work a bit closer with your doctor to get your hormone levels just right. . .if you are eating a calorie deficient diet you should lose weight, if you aren't losing weight then you might need to up your hormone levels. . .
  • Strongly recommend in that case (if the prescribing GP is a nut) he seeks alternative advice from a holistic medicine practitioner such as a herbalist or naturopath. I have seen people come clean off methadone, barbituates, methamphetamine etc. within a few days with the correct treatment - wont mention it on here as that…
  • Yeah a fast/detox would speed up the process...problem is it doesn't just speed it up but it makes it more severe so the choice is. . .EXTREME AGONY (for a week) or SOME AGONY (for 3 weeks)? I would recommend that if your friend wanted to do a fast / detox he does it under the supervision of a qualified person (naturopath…
  • Luckily there are insurance companies. . .assuming you guys are in the USA where the medical industry is extremely different and very driven by $$. . . i'm sure you're probably right that any surgeon would do it for the money. But would that be doing it ethically?
  • AMEN SISTER!!!
  • As for the lapband - good luck finding a surgeon who will ethically perform the procedure on you. . .looking at your photo it doesn't seem that you have much more weight to lose. I feel that unless the procedure is for life-saving (ie. hundreds of pounds) purposes it should not be done... you are making a permanent change…
  • I would not recommend homeopathic HCG at all (unless you have seen a qualified homeopath who has prescribed it for you). It is a homeopathic preparation of a pregnancy hormone. Homeopathic remedies can have a profound effect if used correctly (and this takes a lot of study & years of practice), by taking homeopathic HCG…
  • Agree that it doesn't mean that there is dysfunction (what doctors deal with) but it definately means that function is less than optimal (not in the realm of allopathic "modern" medicine)
  • If I don't go everyday I'd be concerned. . . the only time when not going daily would be ok is if you were fasting or doing a juice detox
  • Agree that with a decrease in food you will poop less, but you really need to be going at least daily - don't want that crap (excuse the pun) sitting in your body any longer than what it needs to. . . Look at your diet & water intake. You want to be having lots of fiber and water. Since being on MFP & doing a MAJOR cut…
  • I drink regularly (weekly) but as Pinky said it does decrease fat burn by 73% (and that's for up to 72 hours after drinking)! I enjoy having a drink but realize that it can seriously affect weight loss so I try to make sure I still stick to my calories - luckily I exercise regularly and earn A LOT of extra calories to do…
  • Hey guys! My name is Cobus (Corby) - I'm a South-African kiwi haha, 76 I live on the beautiful Hibiscus Coast in Auckland and have been a member here for a few months now. I'm half-way to my goal weight and hope to have reached it by the time it gets to Christmas. Loving MFP - I'm so glad to see there's so many kiwis on…
  • Hi, You will need to use the calories for each individual ingredient (as if it was still whole) because by juicing you are only removing the vegetable / fruit cellulose (which passes through our system without adding calories anyway) with juicing you are still consuming the calories (which will be mostly sugar if you use…
  • Hi Anjulie, we'd love for you to join our little NZ group - adding you now ;) Congrats on the new adition to the family
  • Whole foos are always worth it! Eating de-natured foods are sure to make it harder for you to achieve your goals. Make sure the yogurt you get doesn't contain artificial sweetener which interferes with leptin sensitivity (a hormone made by the fat cells to tell your brain how much stored energy is available & that you feel…
