  • I find that when I have a tangible goal in mind (like your reunion), you can really push yourself hard for a period of time. If I were in the same position, I'd set a goal of losing 2 lbs/week. You can go about this through eating healthy and exercising regularly. I don't know how experienced you are in tracking calories…
  • I just jury-rigged one at home to get myself to be a little less sedentary. As far as if I would count it or not, I think I agree with mamahannick and if you're using it all day during the work week (as opposed to sitting at a desk) I might consider upping your activity level. Good luck with it either way!
  • It wasn't until I started doing Whole30 that I even realized there is literally donuts, cakes or other assorted junk food brought into my office nearly each and every day. Not to mention the perpetually stocked candy bowls at several of the desks!
  • Fantastic job!
  • Did that a while ago, and great programs if you ask me. You'll need some items to really get the most out of your workouts, such as a good set of weights (I used the BowFlex dial-a-weight things) and yoga mats and blocks. I found I wasn't able to get through the workouts at first, but over time I kept with it and surprised…

  • Your profile says you joined this month. How long have you been working out, and what loss are you expecting to see at this point? Also, how are you judging your exercise calories?

  • I haven't found any bacon yet either... the nearest place I think has it is Atlanta which is a 2 hour drive. Plus, bacon is a food I figure I should limit anyway (lest I get too carried away with it...) I was hoping to incorporate sauerkraut or kimchi as well as more seafood in my diet, and before my wife was able to grab…
  • Interesting perspective... I'd be willing to concede that there is no such thing as a universal definition for clean eating, but rather it is largely dependent on the individual in question. Personally I am someone who traditionally had a lot of sugar in my diet, so the following part of the article did catch my eye:…
  • Those would be called footnotes. Look at the bottom.
  • Glad to see you're sticking with it even if your initial results aren't what you hoped for. There could be a number of reasons for why you're not seeing the weight loss you expect (eating too little, misjudging the number of calories you consume, overestimating the calories you burn...), but 6 lbs in 4 weeks is nothing to…
  • Hey man, I'm in your boat in terms of weight loss goals (230->180). I've also been on MPF in the past and lost my focus, but getting back on track is the first step. You can see on my profile the goals I've set for myself and how long I hope to take in order to achieve them. Paul
  • Welcome! There's actually a group called "Military Wives" you might want to check out.
  • Day 7, and I'm feeling fatigued but pretty good about the program. There were donuts, pizza, cake and candy set out at work today because we made everyone come in over the weekend, and I barely gave them a second thought (although the pizza did smell pretty good...). Too tired to workout, but hopefully that will pass and I…
  • A bit late to the game, but my wife and I are on day 7 (started 17 Feb) of our first Whole30 challenge. I must say I'm progressing right along though the Whole30 timeline, from the hangover like symptoms at the start, through the irritability and lately the fatigue. That said, mentally I feel great about what I'm doing and…
  • I'm quite proud of the journey she and the rest of the other contestants undertook, but she had a final BMI of 17.5 which is considered underweight. I wonder how/if this will impact rules for future contestants; personally I hope they do put in some sort of language that would disqualify a contestant for going that much…
  • I can second what Lora said about the recent increase on kicking people out who fail their PT tests. It's not that they are unreasonably hard (that's not to mean they aren't challenging, just doable), but you can tell which people slack off for 5 months and crash diet the month their test is due. They stress them out which…
  • There are a finite number of hours in a day/week. How you spend them is your choice. You make time for what's important to you.
  • Good luck to you as well!
  • I don't make a habit of it, but if I know I'll be eating out for dinner or something, I'll adjust my calorie intake accordingly for that day. With the superbowl coming up, I suspect you'll see a number of threads of people doing just that. But I don't do it on a daily basis like you do. I just try to stay under my calorie…
  • My wife and I will be starting the program on Monday. I agree, the before/after pics are very motivating. As to your negative feelings, you need to find what works for you as it is different for everyone else. Why are you starting P90x in the first place? I ran a marathon for a girl once. Dumb reason, but it got me out…
  • I've been eating vegan (and then some) for a Daniel fast through my church the past 2 weeks. It's a 3 week fast. All I can say is, man it's been hard. I find myself craving meats and sugars and such. I've also lost 6+ lbs the past two weeks. I know I'll revert to my carnivorous ways at the end of it, but I wish you luck…
  • I'm about to go on 3rd shift here, so I welcome any thoughts as well. For now, my plan is to work my shift and then workout when I get home in the AM, after the wife leaves for work.

  • I found substituting Chobani for certain things (especially things like Sour Cream) works well in some cases.
  • Great job, and good for you for going to a nutritionist! Keep up the great work!
  • I tried match, okcupid and eharmony. I met a lot of people on all of them. eHarmony dates I had tended to have the most compatible personalities with me. Also, I met my wife on eHarmony.
  • Final weight, 206.6
