Maybe don't come off so desperate and whiny.

I used tailwind during my last ultra. I had tried it a couple of times on long training runs prior. It's good stuff. It goes down really easy. I had no stomach issues at all. I was drinking 200 calories of tailwind per hour and eating one gel or Clif organic energy food or whatever they call the stuff that looks like baby…

Just drink plenty of water. Make sure you're getting electrolytes. And don't push your pace too much especially on your long runs. Understand that your pace will be slower for a given effort the hotter/more humid it is. It's also something you have to build up to and acclimate to. I've trained for marathons and…

If I equated killing animals with murder then I would equate those who eat animals with serial killers. If I knew someone was a serial killer I would not associate with them.

I thought you had said that you were vegan for ethical reasons. And I (perhaps wrongly) assumed that the ethical reasons involved the treatment of animals. Therefore those who eat meat and wear leather and fur would be doing something (killing) that you find "unethical". But apparently it's not *that* big of a deal. As…

But if you are vegan because you believe all life is sacred how can you rationalize accepting someone who purposely exploits and actively ends those lives. If I found out that someone I loved was actually a member of the Ku Klux Klan and engaged in lynching black people on weekends I would stop associating with them…

I've never understood this. If, as a vegan, you believe that it is unethical and murderous to exploit, kill, and/or consume other living things then how can you tolerate associating with people who are basically on the same level as serial killers?

It's sad that you aren't proud of your kids.

Performance actually does decrease in the heat as your body is using energy to try to cool itself as well as to run or whatever activity you're doing. Over time training in the heat will increase your plasma volume which helps cool you and your performance increases. There are other conditioning changes that occur from…

Try using a weighted hula hoop while standing on it.

Before half marathons I eat an english muffin with peanut butter and honey and drink a cup of coffee (at least two but preferably three hours before the gun). Before marathons and longer I add to that a banana and accelerade. I eat a gel 15 minutes before the gun. I just have coffee and maybe a banana before races shorter…

An inch per month is a pretty aggressive height goal. I'm not saying it's impossible but a more modest goal might be better for your long term health.

You did stuff. And things. Now you're tired. Such mystery.

I know it would be hard to stay under my calorie goal if I had constant access to that bread they bake at the Taos Pueblo.

So much naysayer.

Lots of easy miles. Find a plan (any 50K plan will work - even a beginner marathon plan will get you there) and follow it as close as you can but basically get as much time on your feet as you can. If you can do some back to back long runs once you have a better mileage base built up that will help you a lot. Don't add…

If she can run 12 miles per minute she'll have no problems completing this 50K. Low intensity is whatever she can run at a pace at which she could carry on a conversation. Could be a 12 minute mile could be an 8 minute mile. All we know is she ran a half one time and runs somewhere between 3 and 6 miles per run some…

I don't even know that I would do 80/20 in this instance. If she's only running 3-6 miles at a time right now and has 5 months to get up to 50K I'd recommend everything be low intensity miles. Time on feet and having a good high volume base is much more important than pace/speed. Of course we still have no idea when she…
