Why do runners run in the road?
Hi there, This is probably a weird question but I was thinking about it this morning on my long run. I run in a very nice neighborhood with well maintained sidewalks that usually aren’t busy. I noticed on my 15 miles today I was the only one running on the sidewalk. I saw like 30 other runners and they all ran in the road,…

Healing bones and extra calories?
Hi all, Weird question but I was just thinking about it because I got a stress fracture from running. I assume the body needs extra calories in order to repair bones, but how many more? Since my fracture I’ve seen my weight begin to drop despite eating slightly more. I want to make sure I don’t gain too much while I’m on…

This is a gross question, sorry!
This is probably TMI but I’ve got quite the embarsssing question lol. I’ve been iron deficient, having a lot of hair loss (thank god I had a lot to start with!) and diarrhea for the past few months. I went to my doctor, who treated the iron deficiency and told me the diarrhea is normal. He said since I’m a runner it’s not…

I just recently got my bloodwork done…

Running long distances with your dog
Hi y’all, I remember someone on here a while ago saying they ran a few marathons with their dog. I have an active healthy 2 year old Swiss shepherd that is quickly becoming a great running partner for me. The furthest he’s ran is 9 miles and he kept up nicely! I’d love to take him further but I’m curious about fueling…

Easiest and most efficient forms of vegan protein
Hi y’all, My dad is in the hospital and he’s vegan. The hospital staff doesn’t seem to know what vegan is and all of his meals have been lacking in protein... he’s losing a lot of muscle mass and I know he will need even more protein besides that for recovery. Is there a brand of vegan shake you can recommend? Or something…

Freestyle swimming calculation?
Hi all, Back when I was a competitive swimmer I never counted calories, I swam for 12 years around 7 hours a day 7 days a week. I’m looking to add swimming into my cross training rountine now a days for running and I have fun counting. For my runs I always used the formula .63XdistanceXweight and it was pretty spot on. I’m…

In search of the perfect shorts
I’ve had one good pair of running shorts for the past 10 years maybe even closer to 15. I wore them during highschool CC and track practice, all the 5k’s I’ve ever ran, my first half and even my first marathon. I love these shorts because they have big mesh pockets on the back that can fit so many Gu’s and stuff! And a…

Hyponatremia during long runs ?
Hi, I’m curious if others have experienced hyponatremia during long runs? During my marathon around mile 20 I looked down at my hands and my fingers were swollen 3x their size, looked like balloon hands. I also threw up for the next 6 miles constantly. Kinda just figured this was normal but upon googling today sounds like…

Marathon recovery!
Hi y’all, I made it!!!! I finished my first marathon and it was AWESOME! But now I’m in so much pain! How do you all normally recover? I did some research and they suggested a reverse taper of your marathon plan. Do you do that the first week after the race? And does that include long runs on the weekend? Or do you take…

Mysterious object from a running race
This came in a race goodie bag, and it’s driving me crazy I don’t know what it is! It came in plastic that seemed like it was supposed to be opened. It’s the size of my palm and light weight. Not styrofoam , it almost feels like cloth. Not sure if I’m supposed to bath with it, eat it, or put it in my shoe. Any ideas anyone?

Sushi
Hi, I’m looking to learn how to make sushi for my husband for Valentine’s Day! He prefers more fish over rice, sashimi but I’m also open to learning California rolls or maki too! Anyone have any easy to follow recipe? Is sashimi really as simple as going to the store, getting some fish, freezing it for 24 hours to kill…

Runners knee
Hi there, Over a week ago while running I felt a sudden sharp pain in my left knee on an 18 mile run, I just got over the flu and hadn’t ran in a while. I figured I pushed it too hard after not running for a while and rested for the weekend. The knee was purple and swollen twice its size. Come Monday I couldn’t walk or put…

5'4-5'5 women what are your maintenance calories?
Hi ya'll , I know everyone is different but i'm curious what other 5'4 women's maintenance calories are. I'm new to maintenance (5'4, 118 lbs) and struggling on 1600 calories a day; i'm still losing! I thought 1600 + eating back all of my exercise calories would have been pretty close, but I guess i'm a busy body and never…

Illness right before a marathon
Hi y’all, I’ve been training for my marathon for several months now, I never skipped a training day even in the rain! It means so much to me to finish this thing, it will be my very first marathon. Best bang for your buck treadmill?
Hi y’all, I’m looking to get a treadmill, but don’t want to spend too much.. It would primarily be for my husband since he doesn’t like running outside, and I might use it too on rainy days (marathon training here!). For me I’d like a distance tracking feature for sure.. incline isn’t too important to me since I run in FL…

Best macro break down for a runner?
Hi y’all, I’m curious what macro percentage most long distance runners aim for? I realize how important protein is for recovery . However just out of personal…

Womens safety while running alone
I've been thinking a lot about this lately since I've started running alone in the very early hours of the morning when it's still dark out. My mom was always telling me never to run alone, and ended up getting me a large intimidating german shepherd to run with many years ago. He was a great running partner (strong…

Reheating refrigerated casseroles?
Hi there!! Tonight I made ahead a sweet potato casserole, green bean casserole, and baked Mac and cheese for thanksgiving tomorrow... i wrapped them all up and put them in the refrigerator, not the freezer. Pork skin question
Hi, I bought this bag of pork skins, I’m trying to get more protein (was looking for cheaper options) but on the back of the bag it says “not a significant source of protein”. 80 calories and 7g doesn’t seem like that would be the case (also the entire bag was only $2!)? Why exactly did they put this?? Thanks

What goes well with acorn squash?
Hi, Acorn squash are super cheap right now and they’re so good! I tried making a stuffed acorn squash recipe with cheese, onions, and sausage but I didn’t really like all that stuff on top of the squash... the squash was so good by itself I felt it took away from it. I’m thinking of instead making the squash as a side and…

What do you eat the morning before a race?
Hi y'all, I'm trying to figure out what I should eat 30 minutes to an hour before my half marathon next week. I've been experimenting and so far it hasn't gone well let's just say. Last week I tried a tbsp of peanut butter on toast an hour before I ran 12 miles and around the 10 mile mark my stomach had some issues. What…
