Favourite running shoes
I am looking for a new pair so am curious... 1. What sort of runner are you ie neutral or over pronator etc and heel or forefoot striker. 2. What shoe do you LOVE 3. What have you tried and hated. Especially keen to hear from anyone who has successfully Overcome running niggles from changing shoes.

Asics Nimbus or Mizuno Wave Rider 17??
I have been recommended either by the shoe place who did running analysis and I can't decide!! I am apparently a neutral mid to forefoot striker and they also said I could consider the Brooks Free. I have the Asics Trabuco but it's no good for road running and think it's added to my knee issues as has too much support.…

which of these shoes would you get??
Just went to Shoe Clinic and have three options. Keen to know if anyone has tried any. Mizuno wave rider, Brooks pure or Asic nimbus.

For those who use Xtend does anyone know if it is any good for endurance training or even in Ironman or half Ironman events. Or is it primarily for strength training?

Knee niggles from running :-(
What are some exercises - stretches, resistance band or weights exercises that will strengthen up the knee area to make you less prone to running injuries?? I often get issues especially the inside of knee even from short runs and it is more than annoying. Footwear is all good and form is ok so am thinking of focusing on…

Pot bellies in men??
My partner is nearly 46 and competes in Ironman events which sees him training up to 15 hours a week. He is pretty lean and fit but is perplexed as to why he is gaining belly fat despite not eating at a surplus. My only thoughts for him are that maybe he could add in some strength training to all the endurance cardio and…

Has anyone GAINED weight/fat doing intermittent fasting?
It sounds fascinating to me, but being the pessimist/analytical/doomsdayer I am I wondered if it has had negative results for anyone who has tried it - particulary the 16/8 leangains method.

Help needed :-(
Serious question. What would cause you to suddenly lose your feel for the water? After a year of slow improvement I have very suddenly lost strength and feel like I am swimming without hands (best description I can come up with) I have a background in competitive swimming in the late 80s and have always enjoyed swimming so…

Do you HAVE to lift super heavy to gain muscle
I am on a mission to gain back some weight (about 2kg under goal weight) and would prefer this to be muscle. I have lost muscle mass due to a combination of things including illness and for my swimming as well as aesthetics I want it back!! Do I need to do HEAVY lifting ie the 4-6 rep range to achieve this or will higher…

advice for small gain goal
Hi everyone I have inadvertently dropped below goal weight and am very sure this is solely attributable to having given up chocolate and come off the contraceptive. For the record I am now about 102 pounds at a bit over 5' 4" and although I am small build I probably need to gain about 4 pounds or so. Ideally this would be…

Fantastic food finds!
This is a thread for NZ foods we discover that have great nutritional stats or surprisingly low calories... Who knew Weight Watchers jelly had protein in it?? Not me! Just had a whole (not one serving, the whole packet made up) jelly plus one serving of Tatua lite whipped cream and it was only 55 calories. The jelly has…

apps and hills
Are there any apps for running and walking etc that will take into account the incline when calculating calorie burn? I know they measure gradient but don't seem to factor that into your calorie burn.

Frustrated by running!!!!!
Hi everyone I have run on and off over the past two years and every now and then get sidelined by niggles especially around ankle and shin. I have biomechanical issues from mild curvature of spine and slightly different leg length and uneven hips etc I am wondering whether it would pay to spend some time doing those…

Niggles - when to run when to stop
Hi everyone I have a few mild niggles at the moment probably due to getting back into running. The funny thing is its not really sore while running more the next day around the inner ankle bone. Is this something that can be run through or do I have to hang up my shoes for a few days and maybe get on the bike instead??

How to run faster
For those of you who have increased your running speed what do you think has been the most significant thing you have done to achieve this? I started running about a year or two ago and was initially plagued with niggles which I overcame through a period of barefoot running. I can now run semi comfortably at a 5.10 or so…

Morning exercise!!!
I am not and have never been a morning person. But due to my busy life SOME of my training will have to be mornings. But I really struggle with performance ie speed strength endurance you name it when I workout in the morning. What I eat or if I eat seems to have no effect. I am keen to look at triathlons but with these…

Does your body type dictate your sporting ability??
I have a friend who is a previous commonwealth games cycling coach. He believes that body type is a strong predictor of whether someone is better suited to sprint or endurance sports. By that he means natural body type ie he believes it indicates whether a person is more naturally blessed with fast or slow twitch muscle.…

Do you ever wonder...
What you could do if you put your mind to it?? What you could achieve if you focused and pushed past mental blocks and self doubt. I often think what it would be like to just decide to run a half marathon and push myself to finish it even if it took a long time and other similar things that most of my barriers are self…

Is it detrimental to break up training
Usually I can get a good block of time to train but sometimes, today for example, I only had 5 minutes here and there so had to break up todays workout (kettlebell routine) into several sessions. What are the drawbacks for doing this with strength training?

Can you be thinner than the weight you have lost?
Unusual question - I don't mean where you lose fat and build muscle so weight drops very little but your measurements do. I am meaning after an illness. I was sick for a week and within that had 5 days of being able to eat only a piece of toast each day. I have been good as gold for 2.5 weeks now, eating well and back into…
