Knee niggles from running :-(

What are some exercises - stretches, resistance band or weights exercises that will strengthen up the knee area to make you less prone to running injuries??

I often get issues especially the inside of knee even from short runs and it is more than annoying. Footwear is all good and form is ok so am thinking of focusing on strengthening/stabilising up that area (and the ankle area) before attempting any more runs.

Wondering if a stint of barefoot running might help also as this did help once before - seemed to help the tendons etc.

One of my goals for 2014 is to complete a half marathon and its my knees that will prevent this more than my fitness!

spend some time barefoot or wearing five fingers and see if the knee problems continue, if they don't, then you know it's a form problem.

So for mcl and lcl issues my pt had me working on hip strengthening with banded leg lifts, and then wall squats with a big *kitten* yoga ball, first no weight, then up to 20#.On top of that, running form changes.
