Wormood Korean Rice Cake? Calling in food-savvy Asians!
So, I found the neatest thing: a rice cake (brown rice!) that had wormwood, black beans, chopped almonds, and pumpkin in it. It was about an inch longer than my palm and 3/4 as wide. There was sugar listed as an ingredient, but the cake was not sweet at all, so I don't think there was much. I had this for breakfast. Would…

Wellbutrin; has anyone been on it?
Recently I was diagnosed with depression. I am seeing a therapist but a psychiatrist also prescribed me Wellbutrin. Reading up on it, apparently some people love it because it does not cause weight gain--and even makes some people lose weight. I prefer this to the common weight-gain side effects of other antidepressants…

Worried about antidepressants and weight gain
Hey guys! Despite my bubbly picture, I've been diagnosed with depression. For those that know me a bit better, please know that my depression is not severe, and I have never considered harming myself or others. It's basically a combination of genetics and a very stressful year. However, I have been prescribed…

California Pizza Kitchen; need someone savvy
Ok, so I want to enjoy myself but not go bananas. I'd like to keep it under 500 calories. But I want pizza. I've never been to CPK, but I'm aware that you can order anything on the thin crust. So, can someone who frequents it or has worked there tell me about how much would be in this meal: - Appetizer salad (or maybe a…

Need a calorie est. for a buffalo burger
So, I'm going out to this organic, green-certified restaurant tomorrow. One dish that's been getting a lot of kudos is the buffalo burgers. Can someone give me a decent estimate of this meal? - 1/2 lb 98% lean bison patty - Whole wheat bun - Lettuce, tomato, etc. (no cheese) - Ketchup, mustard (no mayo) - Fruit cup (my…

Picking a personal trainer
This summer I'll be joining up with a gym that I had a 1-month membership with over winter break. I was happy with my experience. However, I really want to push myself this summer and get more definition. I think a trainer would help push me. It is my plan to ask for one as a b-day present. He or she would most likely work…

I've never had Thai food before. My friends want to go eat Thai. Can I get some tips? Any entrees that aren't too bad?

Fruit weighing question--bananas, peaches, oranges
I am curious. So, if I weigh a fruit such as a banana or an orange, will the weight I get correspond with MFP's 100 g count for the fruit's unpeeled weight or peeled weight? For example, if I unpeel an orange and weigh it, will the weight I log be legit and correct for calories? Or does MFP's weight include the peel? The…

Help me log this raw smoothie?
I'm really curious as to how many calories this smoothie I had today might contain. Not worried, but curious. It's the I Am Luscious from Cafe Gratitude. Ingredients: Hazelnut milk, figs, dates, cacao, and vanilla I ordered the 8-ounce and requested light on the dates.

Cafe Gratitude; what to order?
Hey chickies! I'm going out to Cafe Gratitude tomorrow. I have the menu. But I'm not sure what to order. I want to have a nice lunch, but not a crazy one. Under 400 calories? I know that Cafe Gratitude is vegan/raw, but I have enough vegan friends to know that vegan does not always equal healthy (lol, one friend lives off…

Accounting for oil in caf. food
Hey, what's y'all's opinion on this? I get meat from my caf, such as grilled chicken fillets. They cook it with oil. I always firmly press my meat with multiple napkins to "cleanse the chicken." But how much is likely still in the meat? I do the same thing for roasted veggies. How much oil should I put in for my food diary?

I think I made a weighing boo-boo
Soo, I have a sinking feeling. I got some quinoa from my school cafeteria. Since I was eating my room (glugh, term paper), I weighed the quinoa. Calorie King told me the calories for cooked quinoa--100 grams. I put it into MFP and got the count again. I was STOKED because it was a lot lower than I thought--and quite a bit…

Clif Builder's Bars!
So, bars are super convenient for me to eat during classes...but I don't like eating vats of chemicals. By the same token, most "natural" bars have next to no protein. Then I discovered Clif Builder's Bars! Yeah, they have a bit of sugar, but I love to eat one with some green veggies as an in-class meal (I eat 5 x a day).…

Veganland!
For one week, I'm a vegan...a very protein-craving vegan. Call it curiosity if you like. Anyway, I'm following my quest on my blog. http://damnthefreshman15.blogspot.com/ All comments/advice very much welcomed!

Upcoming first-ever jog through the park--help!
So, a friend invited me to run with her in Golden Gate Park in a few days. Besides a few little runs, I've never run outside. I've sure as hell never run far outside. In the gym, I do HIIT on the treadmill, mixed in with some regular treadmill jogging, so it's not like I never run. Any tips for running outside? Stuff to…

Going vegan for a week--help!
I'm always curious about alternative ways of doing things. A lot of my acquaintences are vegan/vegetarian. So, for one week, I want to go vegan. But I also strength train, so I eat a lot of protein. I have rice protein powder to supplement, but I like to get most of my nutrients from whole food. I know some might say to…

Weight or cups?
Today I got black beans from my school cafeteria. I measured out half a cup (back in my room). Just for giggles, I weighed it. Then, I checked Calorie King and entered the gram weight...it was way fewer calories than what the half cup was supposed to be. Foods are calculated by weight first, right? My beans were just extra…

Hemp milk?
Anyone tried it? It has a lot more protein that most alternative milks, and omega 3's. I want to buy some, but I'd like to know if it's any good.

Operation Decrapify!
I made it through Spring Break...but I've noticed a few potentially bad habits starting to take nest. This week, I'm nipping them in the bud! There's a link to my plan below. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! http://damnthefreshman15.blogspot.com/2009/03/operation-decrapify.html

My weird thighs explained!
Wow...so I just realized why I thought my thighs looked so strange. THEY ARE LOSING FAT! Finally! I was thinking "Damn, my thighs look sooooo weird....it's like they are becoming wobbly planks of wood...OMFG!" They aren't quiiite beach ready sexy gams...but for the first time in my life, they aren't cylinders!

Dad visiting--help!
So, my dad's visiting me in San Francisco, for 4 days. He has three big food requests: - A nice Indian restaurant - A nice Asian restaurant - A nice Italian restaurant What are some lighter but healthy suggestions for these types of places? I want to enjoy myself, since they will be more expensive than I usually eat. But I…

Getting into treadmill HIIT training...help please?
Hey guys! So, I've been trying to shake up my cardio. I've started incorporating the treadmill, after months of sticking mainly to elliptical and spin class. The only official HIIT I've done is instructor-lead spin class. I've been largely just getting used to the treadmill, because I've never run in my life as a form of…

[Review] Trader Joe's Buffalo Jerky!
Heya guys! I love jerky, but often it's too high in sodium for me. Trader Joe's has a 280 mg per oz. bison jerky that I tried. Here's my review: http://damnthefreshman15.blogspot.com/2009/02/review-trader-joes-buffalo-jerky.html

My caf's crepes--to good to be true?
Can someone with more pastry-esque skill tell me if this is possibly true, or if my cafeteria's manager is just retarded? My college cafeteria, which is very into local and organic food, has a section for crepes. The crepes are the wide, super thin kind that are dry-cooked on a circular plate in front of you. The crepe guy…

Will this magically pack on the pounds?
Quick, silly question. I've been steadily upping my cals (I need to). But today I was pretty busy and ate a little more lightly than usual. Still very healthy, just a little light. I tracked down some of Stonyfield's nonfat chocolate frozen yogurt which has 100 cals per half cup. Looking at my micronutrients, I see that I…

Can someone give me an estimate on my Indian dinner?
So, my friends wanted Indian when we walked past a Naan n Curry. I'm new to Indian food, so I was at a slight disadvantage. I'm not really concerned, because I had plenty of calories left for dinner, but I'm curious to know about how much was in my dinner. I ordered the plain ol' chicken curry--some chunks of white meat…

Soba noodles!
I can't believe I've never had these! My school cafeteria was serving them today, with a bit of shredded scallion, carrot, and a drizzle of oil. I'm always cautious about pasta. but the chef (who knows me) goes "Chill, they're soba--made from buckwheat and whole grain." I take a modest portion. When I logged it, I…
