What can I eat?!
I'm finding myself with a significant number of calories left over each day, but don't want to exceed the fat recommendation. Any suggestions for something healthy and low fat? I am vegetarian, so no meat or fish, and I am doing my best to avoid any sugar! Thanks! :flowerforyou:

New BMI formula
Today I read the following article: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-2265610/Are-fatter-thinner-thought-Oxford-mathematician-shows-flaw-body-mass-index.html It makes sense, I suppose, but it left me feeling rather depressed as, at only 5ft, I will have to lose an extra 7lbs to even get down to the high end of the…

Oil on natural peanut butter
I recently took the plunge to ditch the Skippy and go all-natural with Smucker's peanut butter. I was expecting the layer of oil when I opened the jar, but I wasn't expecting it to be so difficult to mix in! I made a mess, then ended up pouring most of the oil away. Am I supposed to do that? The peanut butter now seems…

Surely not...
On a night out with Japanese friends, we were comiserating about turning 40 and the effect that this will have on our metabolism. I mentioned that I have been following a diet of 1200 cals since last summer and they all told me that I was eating too much! According to the group, I shouldn't be eating more than 1000 cals a…

Fruity Veggie Tagine
This is one of my favourite things to eat at this time of year, in fact I have just made a batch for dinner tonight! It's very easy to vary the ingredients according to what is available or on offer. It's high in taste (and fibre, etc.) but low in calories (about 210 per serving) and fat, and makes the house smell fabulous…

Genki?!
Hi everyone, It's been very quiet here and I am wondering how you are all doing? It's been a long winter, but suddenly, today, it feels like spring might finally be here - wooo hooo! Of course, this means that summer is close behind and it will soon be time to shed some clothing... yikes! Time to crank things up a little,…

Not so Big in Japan!
Had a NSV today! I saw a pair of trousers on sale, and the largest size they had left was a 70. Although I knew they would be too small, I wanted to know how much further I have to go before I go down a size. Not only could I zip them up, I could also breathe, and very comfortably too! :-) Couldn't believe they actually…

Kenko shindan (health check)
Morning all! Yesterday was the day I thought I had to go for my kenko shindan (annual health check - this is not as indepth as the full ningen doc). The previous three times this rolled around, I was so worried about what the doctor would say to me about my weight (not to mention the lack of privacy) that I simply didn't…

Protein Bars
As a vegetarian, I know I don't always eat enough protein. Since signing up to MFP this became quite clear thanks to the diary breakdown, and so I looked for an easy but tasty protein snack to boost my intake without adding too many calories or fat. Most people seem to drink protein shakes, and I've tried a few but was…

Sesame and soya milk soup
I've just enjoyed a mug of sesame and soya milk soup for lunch! I saw this instant soup on sale at my local supermarket and was curious... and it is really delicious! Nice and creamy, but low in calories (76) and pretty good protein (2.3), and perfect for this cooler weather. I can't work out how to add a photo to this…

New songs?
Just wondering if I have misunderstood how this works... new songs are announced on Thursdays (or thereabouts), right? It's Saturday afternoon where I live, but I can't find this week's songs on the forum... Help! I don't want to fall too far behind, I need all the practice I can get!

Low-fat Mini Doughnuts
I've just posted a recipe for low-fat mini doughnuts (not sure how to share the recipe without writing it out again here, I hope this link works!): http://www.myfitnesspal.com/recipe/edit/3921813 They are little bite-size treats, only 40 cals. each. I made them using unrefined cane sugar, yum yum

Moroccan Vegetable Soup
I made this warming and filling soup today for a group of 20, and it went down very well! It's super-healthy, and made with my favourite spice, cumin. I've posted the recipe in the database for those who want to know the nutritional breakdown. Moroccan Vegetable Soup - serves 4 1 T olive oil 1 onion, chopped 2 celery…

Sparkling/carbonated water
Tea and coffe don't count as part of the 8 glasses a day, so I'm told - it has to be water... But what about carbonated water?

Anyone in Japan?
I would love to connect with other dieters/healthy eaters in Japan - it would be helpful to be able to recommend healthy brands, food choices, etc.! Anyone out there?

Disappointed :-(
Just weighed in and I am so, so, so disappointed :-( I have not dropped a single gram in a week, in spite of having been right on track throughout - no cheating! I counted every single calorie, ate healthily, drank a ton of water and exercised, and don't know what more I could have done! I even went through a 4 day…

Day 4
Not sure if it is OK for me to write about general progress here or not, but as I have no-one else to share it with... Another 'done by the book' day, and it was just OK. Today was the first day I have felt a little hungry, but it's starting to get late now so I will just brush my teeth and go to bed. My main problem,…

Made it through day 3
I've made it through day 3 - yay! I've been doing things by the book, making sure that I eat the full 1200 calories and drinking 8 glasses of water, and I am happy that I have had enough to eat and am not hungry. It's been interesting to see the breakdown of nutrition in my food diary, I always thought I ate too much carbs…

Drinking enough?
I know that I really don't drink enough, never have done, and it has taken a concerted effort from me to get 8 glasses inside me today. I'm just wondering, as I've read conflicting reports, if tea and coffee count? I'm not sure I will be able to keep up the pace if not! ;-)

New beginnings :-)
Hi everyone, I've decided it's time to get serious about getting back in shape! I managed to lose 49lbs after my first 2 babies, but gained it all back after baby no. 3. I've lost it before, I should be able to do it again, right? Not so easy... Been making half-hearted efforts for the last 3 years and achieved nothing…
