Make a U-Turn
I wanted to share something that has helped me, not only with dieting, but in life in general... In the book, "You! On a Diet" it says, (and I paraphrase) if you slip up (say eat 1/2 a cake or go for an extra slice of pizza) simply make a "U-Turn." It likens it to the GPS system in your car... if you miss a turn, it…

Project: Beach Body
I'm almost at my goal weight and I've been doing some (mostly cardio) exercise throughout this goal. Now, I'm ready for phase two of this transformation. Project: Beach Body By next summer (9-10 months out), I want to walk out at the pool without my shirt on and feel confident about my body -- it wouldn't hurt if I also…

Take that dad!
Test results are in and I've risen above my genetics! WOO HOO!!! My dad has had a quadruple bypass and had high blood pressure for as long as I can remember. My grandfather died of a heart attack, so did my great-grand father. Probably his dad did too... not sure, the family history is a bit foggy before that. So, I…

Glucose Levels
In January of this year, I took control of my weight and fitness by using MyFitnessPal. I really had no idea how at risk I was with my glucose levels until today however. Last week, I saw my doctor for my physical and had a bunch of test run including a test for glucose. Today I got my results and took record of them, as I…

Setting My Weight Goal
I adjusted my weight loss goal today to 165 lbs. This is based on the Devine calculation for the ideal weight (I read this is the one men should use and women should use one called the Robinson formula). http://www.thebodytransformation.com/resources/calculators/ideal-body-weight.php What are your thoughts? I think that…

MPV Saved My Life
Weight loss and diet changes have paid off!!! Doctor just reduced one BP med and eliminated the other. I went from so obese and dangerously high blood pressure to normal BP and reducing my meds. Once you've…

For shame!
I'm back. I gained back almost nearly 40 lbs that I lost with MFP. It was completely my fault. Once I stopped tracking and recording my food... I began to gradually gain it back. Before I knew it, I was back to my too fat self. I'm going to turn this around, get back on track and be the most fit me ever!

VLCD to Reduced Calorie Diet
I'm trying to transition from a very-low-calorie diet to a regular MFP reduced calorie diet. Since the transition on Friday, I've put on 3.6 lbs. I expected a little variation during the transition, but I'm concerned I must be doing something wrong here. Am I just going to gain it all back now?

The Importance of Water
One glass of water shuts down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a University study. Lack of water is the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers. A mere 2% drop in…

I AM FAT!!!
Would you believe it? When I started MFP in November of last year, my biggest shock was entering my height and weight in the BMI tool to find out I was obese. "Obese" is "clinical" and a term used to describe folks they have to burry in piano boxes... not how I saw myself, but an awakening nonetheless. I've stuck to MFP as…

10 Ways to Boost Your Metabolism
1. Build Muscle Our bodies constantly burn calories, even when we’re doing nothing. This resting metabolic rate is much higher in people with more muscle. Every pound of muscle uses about 6 calories a day just to sustain itself, while each pound of fat burns only 2 calories daily. That small difference can add up over…

1. Think inches, not pounds. Wrap a tape measure around your waist (at belly-button level) and suck in lightly. For optimum health, your waist size should be half your height. 2. Eating Abroad / While Traveling
I am traveling way more than I expected this year. Some of the places I've been going (Mexico, South Africa, Philippines, Argentina) require a lot of research before I can eat. One thing I've been doing is purposely eating 1/2 of what is brought to me, if I haven't had a chance to check the calories... if I'm under, can…

Here I Am!
Hi everyone in the Fitnesspal.com community. I've been using Fitnesspal for a little bit now (almost 2 months). I wanted to wait until I saw this was working (watching calories and exercise) before I introduced myself... to be honest, if it wasn't working, I wouldn't be posting. I've already lost 15 lbs. and my energy…
