I'm trying to transition from a very-low-calorie diet to a regular MFP reduced calorie diet. Since the transition on Friday, I've put on 3.6 lbs. I expected a little variation during the transition, but I'm concerned I must be doing something wrong here. Am I just going to gain it all back now?

Chances are that your body is just adjusting from the shock of starvation mode and will gain a bit before it realizes that it is getting enough to let some fat go.
Best thing I can think to do is split your MFP calories into 5 to 7 small meals a day. Your body will realize that there is a steady supply of food and will bost your metabulisim again.

    Best of luck

There is a message about a "700 calorie diet and still not losing. " Depending on how low your calories were you may gain for a few weeks, even a month while you body gets convinced it's not it starvation mode, then you will start losing again. When you go too low on calories for an extended period of time, your body thinks it is starving and will store every spare calorie. When you start eating normal it takes a while for your body to adjust to not storing. You need to ride through it and break the cycle, so be patient and dont' worry about weight gain for at least the first month.

It may not take that long depending on how long you were on very low calories for.
    Best of luck.

I would keep the protein high and the carbs/sugars in check. This should help with any sudden gain and help you maintain. Are you doing your own VLCD or part of a program like hcg?

I did a modified HCG thing. Essentially, I did two weeks at 850 calories and two weeks at 550-650 calories, while maintaining 30 grams of fiber a day. And of course, I took HCG 3 times a day. I lost nearly 30 lbs. But, this Saturday I was up 2 lbs and today another 1.6 lbs.

2-3 days doesn't really mean anything. You will make some adjustments and that amount of gain is not unusual, but it's not fat (you can't gain fat that quickly).

If you have not read "pounds and inches" I woudl reccomend you do so. It will help explain how to maintain and what to do to correct a sudden jump in the scale. Congrats on you success. Many are not suceesful with modifications on hCG. A lil bit jealous.

In case you're wondering, I'm now back on track. Once I started some cardio, my weight loss charged back up again.
