Adjusting heart rate zones?
I just got a Fitbit Charge HR. I had used a chart to find the heart rate zones for my age and Fitbit seems to use the same zones. I think they may be off. My heart rate gets kinda fast easily. My age is 44F. My resting (sleeping, when I wake) is about 60. My "sitting in the couch reading" is about 75. 2 minutes going super…

Good Mornings ? Form?
Does anyone here do Good Mornings? I have been doing them like I saw in a few body builder sites/videos.... bend over - back to full upright, and only felt them in my legs. I started doing them without coming all the way back to fully standing, still slight bent at the top of the exercise, and now I feel my back and glutes…

Kimberly's AHA Round 2
I did pretty good with round. (I realize now that I wasn't logging my vitamins, and being a 'lazy migraine week' I was using the Gummy Vitamins, and should have logged them, I think. Oops. It is what it is) ROUND 2: R1 weight: 140#. R1 daily average cal: 1505 R2 weight: 141# (big Long John Silvers the night before a…

I think I remembered everything today, but well log better, tomorrow my first full day. My name is Kimberly. I am 43. I have three college age kids. I…

Famished!
I blame the gardening last night. Anything remotely cardio makes me famished! I need to avoid grains at breakfast (messes with my blood sugar, messing up my whole day), but when I wake up so very hungry, all I can think about is a HUGE bowl of cereal!! Gonna be good....gonna be good.... Tea and a protein bar. Maybe cereal…

HRM question
heart rate monitor question- is this something on could borrow from a friend for a few weeks to try? or are they set up/calibrated for one person and it would bee too hard to change it to work for me for a couple weeks? I think that is all I really want; is to get readings from a couple weeks just to check where I am with…

Belly fat vs visceral fat?
I keep reading, seeing, hearing about how belly fat is so bad because it is visceral fat. But not all belly fat is visceral, surely it is sometimes subcutaneous.. My husband has all his weight in his belly, but it sure looks and squishes like subcutaneous fat. (I read visceral is usually firm) I would think the only way to…

"Don't Diet like a MAN!"
So, is there some new crazy diet fad out there? I keep getting "suggested post" & "sponsored site" on Faceebok that all have the same theme... [targeted at females, obviously] "Don't diet like a man".."this is why you should never diet like man."... HOW does a man "diet"? and what is this new theme of diet posts/sites/ads?

My 5x5 break update
I put myself on a YOGA only regimen for December, I upped May calories, am taking my vitamins, and have been doing yoga 5 times a week. It is as boring as box of rocks. (Wait, I like rocks sometimes...) it as boring as a box of socks. (Yuck. Socks) I am feeling better, slowly. I did some bodyweight exercises today, I am so…

Took a a break from lifting and am MORE HUNGRY!?
(This seems Odd) I lifted weights, heavy for me, 3 times a week for 4 months. (May-Aug) Then started a job and dropped lifting to twice a week (my Chronic Fatigue issues couldn't handle it) Didn't lose any weight, that whole May-October (135#) but felt strong and my body shape changed for the better (and according to my…

SUPERSIZE vs SUPER SKINNY
(Just thinking out loud here.) this show makes me wonder what my son (20 & living at home) eats. The super skinny guy they have on the show is shorter than my son (he looks it, anyway, can't find info, but he looks shorter than 6'4.5") and weight 20 pounds MORE and he hardly eats anything and is super picky. My son eats…

I did it! Yay!
I had a weigh in oday. It' seen since October 1. My goal was to have my body fat be between 21-23%. (It was about 28% when I started, I think) October 1st it was 23.4%. Today it is 22.85% I know caliper measurements carry a degree of error, but I use the same body sites and same formula each time. The skinfold mm…

Why doesn't weight or height matter?
I'm sure it's a very simple explanation that my mind isn't grasping.... But why doesn't height and/or weight matter for determining body fat % when using calipers? The chart is just "find your age group." I would think one or the other might matter in addition to the thickness of the skin fold., but I guess skin thickness…

Not doing as well as I'd like
I started Strong lifts in about June I think, it was slow at first, but I kept at it and progresses. I have a few health issues that makes everything slower, longer, etc... But I persevered. Slowly. Then I started a part time job in August. Just 3 days a week. 19-20 hours a week. It is taking everything out of me. I am so…

Sugar carbs? Food logging?
Is there a way I can change the nutrients on my own food log. For prepackaged foods, I only want to track the sugars part of the carbs. I don't want to change the food item in the site-wide log. So for my Balance Bar, it has 20 total carbs, 4 are fiber, 12 are sugars. If I want to ONLY count the sugar carbs, can I change…

Protein powder question -
I started a job at a health food store. When protein powders (& anything else) reach the date on the back, they get pulled off the shelf. Workers (including me) can take them if we want. Free protein powder is a GREAT deal! Those things can be costly! Anyone one know just how long past the exp date on the canister they…

Article I read. Confused? Your thoughts?
I was Reading an article & am CONFUSED! First is says that : body fat for lean people is "lean around 14-17 percent or less of body fat for men, and 21-24 for women"THEN is says: optimal body fat levels in modern humans, to be around 6-13 percent in men and 14–20 percent in women. SO are they say it is optimal to be…

New lifting parter
Partner! Tried to backspace to fix my typo but it saved and posted instead. Hey! My older neighbor (50?) is coming over tomorrow to start doing weight lifting with me! Gonna start her out on form. Just a 10# bar and form. I feel way too new and inexperienced to be teaching someone else the ropes.

A few questions about lifting quantity
A couple months ago when I had a big struggle with migraines and some respiratory thing, Sara (from eat, train, progress) told me that really all I need to reap some benefit is to lift twice a week, so not to feel bad on weeks my chronic fatigue kicks in and I only get in 2 times a week. (I would try to make up missed…

Feeling sorry for myself this week.
Just wanted to scream out loud: "I hate having chronic issues that make me so weak and tired and sick all the time!!" And I know it's not all the time,,just about half the time, but it's been an uphill battle the past few weeks and I thought I reached the top of this hill and earned a couple good weeks, but today I am…

Becoming accustomed to new activities?
Does our body 'become accustomed' to new activity? I started this new job, 20-24 hours a week, cashier. On my feet almost the whole time, and when we have no customers I stock shelves, move carts, sweep, vacuum, etc.... I have not increased my calories. Usually I just feel super worn-out ( not too extra hungry) but some…

What to do about meeting goals??
I met my goal in dead lifting. To DL my body weight (I weigh 134 and can DL 136 with a max one time of 141) I have no desire to DL more than that. I may not "progress", but won't it still be "good for me" even if I keep my DLs around 135-145 ...forever? My other lifts are still going up as planned.

My one Year at MFP
<-- that is me 13 months ago, before I have my melon-sized fibroid removed! I looked pregnant! (And felt it!) ********** ONE YEAR! It came and went. My one year here was July 17, I think. I started at 146# post major surgery, took it slow (due to the surgery and not having much to lose). Lost 0.5# a week. Got to about 134#…
