Protein powder question -

I started a job at a health food store. When protein powders (& anything else) reach the date on the back, they get pulled off the shelf. Workers (including me) can take them if we want.
Free protein powder is a GREAT deal! Those things can be costly!
Anyone one know just how long past the exp date on the canister they (protein powder) are still good (have all the protein and nutrients)?
(I have had to increase my protein since lifting weighs, so protein powders/bars are a regular part of my diet anyway, So, I'm also wondering how bad it would be to just use up my free/expired powders while I can, so for breakfast and lunch daily for awhile. )

I'd personally keep using them unless they were years old. I've had protein for months. shrug- I'm not picky about such things- but I drink milk past the sell buy date as well.

Sometimes expiration dates are there so you keep buying more stuff. Most items are good way past the expiration date...http://www.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/features/do-food-expiration-dates-matter0

LOL
My son used to dump out almost full gallons of milk. His nose and palate are very sensitive and he'd freak at the difference in taste in the milk after 3 days from the store. Milk is expensive, we had to work on that habit of his)
Cool, good to know the protein value is probably still good. I'm gonna save $$ on groceries for awhile and have protein shakes for breakfast lunch and snack I guess. ( I prefer them actually, I am not a 'I love to eat all the foodz' person. I eat to live and time is short most days. Give me a Quest bar and let me be on my way.)0 -

I'm a rebel like that.
no- just kidding.
sell by date is different than a true expiration date. If i'ts bad it's bad- if it's not- I still drink it.0 -
i wouldnt use it if it was a year past the expiration, it would usually taste weird if anyting. if its denatured you will know.0
