Defeating the Purpose?
Ok - so at the ripe old age of 39, I have to admit that I dislike most fruits and veggies. I'm trying, but it is hard. I'm adding fruits right now, and am on strawberries. My issue is, my brain seems to want everything sweeter - more like a strawberry Jolly Rancher flavor. So, am I defeating the purpose of the fresh fruit…

KT Tape
So I think I'm potentially getting a posterior shin splint on my right shin. I've been pretty good about icing it after runs, and using the treadmill on my easy runs to take some of the pressure off. The KT tape claims to reduce the pressure on the area during runs, to help prevent further damage and to also aid in…

By The Numbers
Today marks 10 months since I started this little adventure. Since I'm a numbers girl (and former statistician), I figured I'd lay it out: - 10 Months of Effort - Pounds Lost: 32 (15%) - Body Fat Lost: 8.1% - Inches lost (Hips/waist/chest): 12.5 - Mile Pace: down 7 minutes to 12:20 - Distance Gained: barely a mile to a…

Working on my Pacing
So I'm still working on this half marathon training 'stuff'. I find it interesting that the short runs on my plan are now six milers - longer than I had ever run even three months ago! First, let me say that I'm NOT A FAST RUNNER! Considering that nine months ago I was pacing at almost 20 minute miles, I'm very proud of…

Supplements for Long Runs
Ok, I know this has been posted a couple of times, but my question has a bit of a twist to it. I'm in the middle of training for my first half marathon. I had a 7 mile run this weekend, and hit my wall around mile 4. I now know I need to start supplementing, but here is my issue. I can't stand the texture of Gu, gels, Shot…

Question about Half Training Plans
Ok half marathoners - I have two training plans in my hot little hands. The first one has the longest run before the race set to 10 miles. The second one has me going to 14 and is MUCH more intense. I've never done this before. I've been following the second plan, but I feel like I'm running my *kitten* off? I mean, the…

Who Else is Running Savannah RNR Half or Marathon?
I just registered for my first half marathon - the Savannah Rock and Roll Half. Is there anyone else on here that is going to run it? Maybe we could start a training group?

TOM - FAQs
RANT! Are so many women really clueless about their period? I mean really? Below are some answers to questions that are WAY to common on here! I'm sorry, but I get so tired of reading these types of posts day in and day out. It isn't like your period is new to you, unless you are 11 or 12. It IS a fact of life for us, but…

Which Color Lens Do You Use?
Ok, so I've been going mountain biking a lot in the evenings lately. We usually start around 6:30 or 7, and end right around dusk. I've been wearing my brown/amber lensed glasses to protect my eyes, but have been finding it challenging the see the trail when I'm in the woods. The problem is, the trail snakes in and out of…

Had a NSV today
so I've been in all day offside meetings the last two days with people I don't normally work with. You start to get to know folks after being locked in a room with them for 19 cumulative hours. I've struggled with food choices both days, so people have asked about my diet plan, MFP, and my workouts. At the end of the…

I can run!
So I started working out with a trainer back in January. On January 4th, it took me over 19 minutes to run a single mile. I've been plugging away, and had been dealing with some pretty severe pain in my feet. During a trip to the podiatrist at the beginning of March, I finally got an answer to my foot issues. Added some…

Memorial Day is Coming in the US - Honor your Servicemembers
My office did a bulletin board with pictures of all of our loved ones that are currently serving in the military, retired, or lost their lives in the line of duty. I thought it would be kinda neat to have a thread to thank everyone that has served our country with honor. Thank you to all of you for what you do... My cousin…

Do you really think the desire for JUNK ever goes away?
Ok, curious as to what others think about this. I started this plan back in January. I am an admitted junk food junkie. I LOVE crap! :) Back then, everyone said "oh, it takes 90 days to really create new habits." "You'll get over the cravings eventually." etc.... I'm here to tell ya - without good restraint, I'd eat all…

25 Pounds Gone Forever!
Today was my 4 month progress test with my trainer. We also took an updated progress picture, so I thought I'd share. I've lost 25 pounds since January 4th, and have about 15 to go to reach my first goal. I didn't think I'd made much progress in the last few weeks, but after looking at these, I guess I was wrong!

Nutrition App that doesn't need Internet connection?
Hi all - On Wednesday I'm leaving on a 14 day cruise to Hawaii. I won't have access to the Internet, but I'd still like to keep a log of my food and calories. Does anyone know of a good app, iBook, kindle book, etc for the iPad that doesn't need to access the Internet to pull down food data? Almost like the old weight…

Need a new goal....
Because my 'goal dress' fits 30 days ahead of when I plan to wear it! :) I bought a really hot dress at White House Black Market last summer After ihad lost about 10 pounds. By December i had gained all that back plus another 18 pounds. 2.5 months into this, the dress already fits with no pulling, yet I'm still about 10-12…

Feels like I'm freezing after workouts
Ok, so this is a new feeling for me. It started about 4 or so weeks ago (I've lost 16 pounds and 2% body fat). I workout after work each night, then eat my dinner, then do things around the house(laundry, cleaning, tv, etc.). When I"m done with the workout, and cool down, I get really, really cold. Like freezing, shivering…

My First REAL NSV
Ok, so I've lost 15-16 pounds thus far, and even though my clothes fit better, I haven't really 'felt' like I look any better. This has been a little discouraging. Last night I was meeting some friends at the rock climbing gym. I was the first one to get there. One of my friends that I hadn't seen in about a month walked…
