Diary of tenacity
I saw my highest weight ever on the scale this morning. I'm starting an accountability thread for myself and will post my weight every day. I can't "hate myself" into losing weight. I'm going to take the long view and post every day for accountability and to see the big picture in terms of progress. Nothing else is working…

Two questions about discussions: how to reduce font size, and how to turn off popup notifications
The font size for the discussions is now gigantic. I can only see a few posts per page because it's so large. Zooming in or out isn't a great solution because it means I have to then zoom out again on every other page open in Chrome. Secondly, how do I turn off the annoying popup notification that says "so and so commented…

My exercise diary updates are not showing up in Newsfeed
My updates to the exercise diary ("wanderinglight burned XX calories doing XX") used to show up in my newsfeed but they don't seem to be doing that any more. I've checked in settings but can't find the fix. My food diary is private, but it's always been private and wasn't affecting it before.

DEEZ NUTS
So...I finally started *actually* using a food scale after many years of thinking I was being pretty good about my quantities. And it turns out that I had been mostly accurate with everything except for when it came to logging nuts. Yesterday I logged 58g of nuts, which was only one large handful, and it was 320 calories!!…

Aqua Yoga / Floating Fitness
You guyyyyys...I've gone deep down into the rabbit hole into the world of Aqua Yoga / Fitness classes (where you basically do a whole class standing up on a floating foam board) but there are no classes near me. And boards are $600+! And I don't have a pool, except for the one at my gym, and I doubt I could bring my own…

As a 46yo woman with "obesity genes," is this even possible?
Hi All. I'm feeling so discouraged. I have been fit, very active and very vigilant about how I and what I eat for the past 20+ years. But I feel like I've been in a crisis-induced fog for the past three years or so, and somewhere along the way I gained 40lbs. I know the reasons I've put on the pounds -- it's not a surprise…

Recipes with carob powder?
I have somehow ended up with a GIANT bag of carob powder. Besides substituting it for cocoa powder...does anyone have any recipes they like that *aren't* sugary desserts (i.e. no brownies, cake, etc)?

Need to fall in love with exercise again (at age 45)
I weighed myself tonight and confronted the truth I've been avoiding for a long, long time. I'm the heaviest I've ever been. I could list a ton of excuses -- a few recent years of major surgeries and life upheavals, depression and stress from living with my dying mother-in-law for the past year in our tiny home, working…

Any good trainers / exercise experts to follow on Instagram?
Who do you follow on Instagram for motivation and exercise routines? I follow Zuzka Light (@zuzkalight), formerly of Bodyrock. I'd love to find some more people to follow who post daily routines, strength training, mini videos, that kind of stuff. I'm not interested in people who just post fitspiration photos of themselves…

Meditation podcasts
I'm trying to make meditation a part of my daily routine and was wondering if anyone could recommend any guided meditations, particularly to start the day or to listen to before or after a workout. I have found that I enjoy "body scan" type meditations in the past because they have helped me feel strong, motivated and…

Just lost my job, my motivation and my willpower in one fell swoop
I'm freefalling and need some help. I was hired for my dream job which would have taken me to Alaska for five months. It would have been a fairly physical job, and I was training hard for it and feeling great. For the past few weeks I was focused on a backpacking / hiking program which was tailored to the job I'd be doing.…

How do I use a food scale?
I know this is a silly question, but I'm curious how people use it while cooking or just making a sandwich or whatever. Do you have a bowl on the food scale (zeroed out) and you just add all the ingredients to that bowl first before throwing them in a pan or in the oven, or do you do one ingredient at a time and then enter…

How do I see threads that I've commented on (but didn't star or add to bookmarks)?
Wasn't sure where to post this... Thanks for any help!

Has anyone been primal or paleo for 5+ years?
I'm just curious and would love to hear back from anyone who has successfully transitioned to a permanent paleo or primal lifestyle.

Help exiting the spiral of doom and discouragement
This is a cry for help. I truly do not know what else to do to get myself on track and I am so very discouraged. I'm 44 years old and 40lbs overweight. For most of my adult life I have been fit and in shape. The combination of consistent, varied exercise and eating well has been a priority for me for as long as I can…

I *LOVE* My Immersion Blender!
Okay, I broke out my new KitchenAid stick blender tonight -- and I absolutely LOVE it! I am doing 30 days without sugar (natural, artificial, added or otherwise), and a combo of Paleo and Whole30 sugar detox. Paleo didn't quite fit because I didn't want to use any sweeteners at all, including maple syrup and honey. And…

Countdown to shoulder surgery, need encouragement!
On Nov 6 I'm having three tears repaired in my surgery. Although the surgery itself is arthroscopic, the recovery is extremely long and involved since the shoulder is the most complicated joint in the body. I'm having it done on my dominant arm. Doctors have said it could be 6 months to a year before I can go back to my…

Fascinating article in The Atlantic about weight loss
I loved this article. It talks about using tools available to us (like MFP, or other online motivational / weight loss programs) is essentially echoing behavior modification systems based on punishment and reward. I liked that the focus was so much on how to keep weight OFF using sensible practices. Has anyone on MFP also…

Question re: wedding dress & managing boobage
Hi Ladies, So...I have a one-shouldered wedding dress (see profile pic) and I'm trying to find the best bra / bustier to wear with it. My catch-22 is that I need the bra before I can go in for my wedding dress fitting, but I don't want to have to drag my dress to the bra store to get the bra. I ordered a Dominique Longline…

PENS FOR WOMEN? A very dangerous idea.
Ladies, I don't know if you've seen the special line of "Bic for Her" pens that are now being sold in Staples. Actually, if you're anything like me you probably aren't capable of driving yourself to the store. Sometimes, after I finish the cooking and cleaning, I ask my husband to drive me so that I can stand in front of…

Match yourself with an Olympian!
I thought this was really cool -- you plug in your weight and height and it shows you a graphic of where you fall among the Olympians and which sports you fall under! I was with the swimmers, judo experts and sailors. http://gawker.com/5930473/lose-hours-of-your-life-finding-your-olympic-body-matches-on-the-bbc-website

Help understanding bloodwork - low hormones
Hi There -- I just got my bloodwork back from my physician and the lab and I will be going in to review with her as soon as I can get an appointment, but she had circled a few "red flags" and I was wondering if anyone can help me make sense of it so I don't drive myself crazy. Tests done: TSH + Free T4; CBC with…

Any Primal / Paleo brides out there?
Hi All! Anyone else eating primal / paleo or clean and also planning a wedding? If so, I'm looking for new friends who will offer support, inspiration and some butt kicking when needed. There's also another thread about losing weight before a wedding here which I post on but I'm curious if there are any brides like me who…

30 days of sugar free
I know it's not the first day of the month or anything but I happened to be reading about Alec Baldwin's weight loss after his doctor made him cut out sugar from his diet because he was pre-diabetic. Over all the years that I have been trying to lose weight -- limiting my calories, working out 500+ calories per day, eating…

Tears & Sweat, Sweat & Tears
I sweat SO MUCH when I work out! Or even just when I go for a brisk walk. I don't glow...I get flopsweat. I am a sweaty, sweaty mess. And it drips off me! Even when my heart rate is low, or when I'm lifting weights instead of cardio, I just leave these little pools of sweat wherever I go (of course I clean up after…

I've been weight training for 20 years and I'm bored
I really need some new routines for strength training. Something beyond the same old five exercises for each body part. I know they work but...I've been doing bicep curl / bent over row / shoulder raise / tricep kickback / dumbbell flye for so long I think it's stopped working. I have been doing bodyrock workouts for the…

I just saw this online and loved it, whether you run or not. Being physically able to work out is a gift that we give ourselves!
