Hi Ladies,

So...I have a one-shouldered wedding dress (see profile pic) and I'm trying to find the best bra / bustier to wear with it.

My catch-22 is that I need the bra before I can go in for my wedding dress fitting, but I don't want to have to drag my dress to the bra store to get the bra.

I ordered a Dominique Longline bra online, but I was thinking about going to a bra store out here in CA that is supposed to have tons of options so I could try them on. Or I was going to order a bunch of options online and return what doesn't work.

My dress isn't corset style and it doesn't provide the support I need to feel comfortable in it all night without hiking it up, etc. I currently wear bra size 34G.

I would love any advice or input on what you ended up wearing with your dress!

Get thee to a bra shop! A specialty shop will not only have a lot of choices for longline/bustier style bras, but you'll be able to try on sizes to make sure everything is where it should be. It's also so much more convenient than ordering, waiting, trying on, and returning.

I'm buying a bustier for mine. It gave me a more defined waist and supported my gals.... And it's appropriate for the "wedding night".

I'm sure you would be able to get one and take it back if it wans't right and swap it. It's not like you're swapping knickers or anything.

I'm afraid I didn't have that problem. My dress alterations lady looked me up and down (you know, eyes sweeping and judging) and points at my boobs and said "you heff no bust, I nort waste time to put bra for no bust"

I have a 34DDD, sometimes F. When I got married, I wore a bustier from David's bridal since my dress was strapless. I felt supported.

I had the same problem- also a one shoulder gown. I went to David's Bridal for their long line undergarmet. It is AMAZING- and they size you there to make sure you get the right fit (without pushing up skin or chunkyness), you don't need to bring the dress unless it's really low cut in the front.

Make sure you get a longline bustier - something that goes down more than a couple inches below the bust (something that small is useless). Jump around in it in the changing room like a bloody fool. Seriously - you need to feel like you're well supported, and that's the best way to find out.

The more boning in the bustier, the better the support will be. If it feels flimsy in your hands, it will feel flimsy on your body.

I wore a full-fledged corset, because of the type of dress I had, but it's overkill for a lot of styles.

The fitters can also sew something in for more support that won't show. I'd ask them wht type they think you need.

This is my catch-22. Should I go to the fitters first, and see whether they can sew something in? Or should I show up at the fitters with my bra options already in hand?

Have not been in a wedding dress, but do have lots of experience with strapless tops/corsets. IMO, it would be much easier to get a well fitting corset/bustier that will provide support under the dress than trying to sew enough boning in the dress to work. The kind that is long enough to sit on your hips will provide the most 'lift' without worry about anything coming down as it will be well supported.

I think you should go ahead and go to a specialty store and get something, like a bustier, that you think is comfortable/supportive. That way you can try that on with the dress and then the dress place can let you know if they think that is the best option or if they can do something better/different right into the dress. Probably best to have both options ready to go when you head to your fitting!! I think that will make it less stressful, which is SO key in the final months :)

Thank you so much for all the replies! I ordered one longline bustier from Amazon and will bring that to the fitting. Then, if that doesn't work, I'll drag my gigantic wedding dress to the specialty bra store and will try them on there.

    Fingers crossed!

I had no intentions of wearin' a bra with my weddin' dress, but three months before my weddin' we found out we were pregnant...thank GOD I didn't gain any weight, my belly pushed out a little though, and since I was wearin' a very form fittin' dress, I went to a bra shop and had them fit me with a corset. Worked beautifully and my boobs looked spectacular! Definitely go to a speciality shop before your dress fittin', those women know what they are doin!

Not sure why you need to drag your dress to the store when you have such a great pic of it to take with you. Bra specialists are well...specialists, and yours won't be the first dilemma they've faced. I had a dress with netting above the deep sweetheart necklne which meant I needed a very low-cut bra. I didn't need to haul the dress in, and my local bra boutique was able to fit me wonderfully.

I don't agree that you need a corset-style undergarment unless you have middle-age roll around your middle (you don't appear to from your pics)...I wouldn't want to be that strapped in on my wedding day - but everyone has their own idea of what feels/looks good. Best wishes for your wedding!

To really surprise your husband and make the night memorable, go bra-less! And during the cocktail reception, take your newly wedded husband to empty area of said location and flash him.
