Two questions about discussions: how to reduce font size, and how to turn off popup notifications

The font size for the discussions is now gigantic. I can only see a few posts per page because it's so large. Zooming in or out isn't a great solution because it means I have to then zoom out again on every other page open in Chrome.

Secondly, how do I turn off the annoying popup notification that says "so and so commented on X thread" that pops up every time I'm in discussions. Couldn't find any kind of button to change one's settings or preferences for discussions.
