Tough Mudder people?
My husband's co-workers found out I am getting in shape and want me to possibly do a Tough Mudder with them in October. I'm interested in hearing about the experience from others who have done this. Is there a fair amount of running between obstacles? How intense is the shocking thing? lol Any other details/opinions…

Nausea while working out
Have you guys found any correlation between your workouts where you get nauseas... and your workouts where you don't? From where I've been reading elsewhere it seems like maybe 1) hot rooms and 2) high heart rate causes nausea. I just did my first 20 minutes with Jillian Michaels and felt like it was a good workout but…

Good Paleo cookbooks?
I read that "Make It Paleo" and "Everyday Paleo" may be good. Any opinions? Anybody eating paleo and have a website/cookbook/something that they use a lot and find really helpful?... My husband and I have agreed to go Paleo June 1st and I'd like to have as many ideas as possible! Thanks.

pre race run
For the runners, on the day of your race, do you do a pre-race run to "warm up"? Why/why not? At what distances?

Harder workout = need more sleep?...
I've built up a decent level of endurance this past year and now doing lengthy runs and high resistence workouts. I'm eating back most of my calories - including protein and carbs - but I've noticed I'm starting to feel pretty tired, overall and not as sharp in conversation as I usually may be. I'm getting around 6-7 hours…

WHAT do I do for tight abs/arms?
I'm really wanting to work on my abs and arms. I run a lot so my legs are strong and endurance up. My arms and abs are okay but I want the whole body deal. I don't need a six pack but I want tight, flat, strong in both areas. I'm really interested in trying something for 30-60 days and doing a picture comparison. I'd like…

Surviving Marathons & Ultrarunning
I just ran my first 10 mile run this week. I was exhausted from heat, more than anything, (4pm run), got a nice blister on one toe and chaffing to my inner arm from my mp3 player. I'm wondering... are people out there running marathons and 50k+ distances WITHOUT "help"?... Just good ole fashion training, water and carb…

Cutting sugars in Virginia
As a kid, I remember eating pretty healthy, being "skinny as a rail" and having a ridiculous amount of energy (even for a kid). Now, at 29, with decade long bad habits and two babies, I'm overweight. I guess I should consider myself lucky to only be there. It's so awful what fat can do to your self esteem. I've found…

Passing people in a 5k+
If the path is narrow, is there a not-so-rude way to do it? Is there a general idea that you "pass on the left" or "pass on the right"? How about when starting off the race and you are trying to get around those who want to start at a slower pace? In my only race, I passed on the left, the right, in between, however I…

First 5k and TOM
Just started this morning. A little concerned because mine can be debilitating. My second day is usually the worst with tylenol/ibuprofen around the clock. I've been planning this for two months though so I am going. If I am in pain, I am hoping it will subside when runner's high kicks in. I'm wondering if I should attempt…

Changing room
Went to buy some shorts for my first 5k coming up and picked up all LARGEs to try on. In the changing room, I started trying them on and realized they didn't fit. I had to go back... and get... MEDIUMs. And I started out a size 16 in January. Can you believe that?! :)

Barefoot uphill sprints
in my yard. Good idea? Not? Who has been running barefoot? Thinking about doing this on the beach in a couple of weeks too.

Running - why not increase more than 10%/week?
So I've heard that you shouldn't increase your running distance more than 10% per week. I'm trying to figure out why this is the case. I guess I'm under the impression that my form, the way my feet hit, how hard they hit, and my weight behind it have a lot more to do with injury than "running more", but I don't know so…

NonScale Victory - Ran 6 miles!!!
January 17th this year, I was 177 lbs. at 5'7". Certain times of day, clothed, I even showed 185lbs. I was taking in probably 3500 calories per day at times. I was NOT exercising. I had no motivation. I felt trapped - like there was no point in trying to get smaller because I couldn't stop my cravings. I would cry because…

5'7" 177lbs to 156lbs; 21lb loss
Hello, all! This is my FIRST report on my success. I was 10 lbs. from obese in mid January (yes, 3 months ago). Today, I have officially entered the realm of healthy weight, according to BMI. Two distant, male cousins of mine went from 260 lbs to 180 lbs. in less than a year. They went from blood pressure meds, cholesterol…

Getting flirts - feels good!
I'm married so, while I didn't return the flirtation, I completely got hit on by not only this cute cashier today, but this YOUNG, cute cashier (early 20s). I'm turning 30 this year and I was out with my two kids! - so I was incredibly flattered. This is not what I'm losing weight for, but man, it felt nice to feel…

Are you sleeping better with exercise?...
So far, I've changed up how much and what I eat, in order to lose weight. The exercise, I've been slow to do. But the past 3 nights, I've wanted to do the "boredom eating" thing, as I've done that for years and, to fight it, I started running in place/doing jumping jacks, that kinda thing for 30 minutes. And I've noticed I…

Fat Intake: Pros and Cons... Nutritionists? Body builders? O
I'm often enough over in fats. Usually, on the days which this is the case, I've eaten nuts and/or avacado. I've read that these are "good fats". Here's the deal. All of the fat-free products out there imply that we need less fat. Is it true? I know a serious body builder who eats fat to burn fat and I have cousins in some…

Who is eating a lot of VEGETABLES!?
Okay. I'm trying to figure out how to add more vegetables do my daily diet. Any tips on how you go about it? Anyone using a frozen variety you like? Do you sautee them? Add a certain ingredient? I generally add spinach to my sandwiches or omelletes but I know there's more I could be doing. Thanks!
