I ran outside this morning and it was COLD. For the people running in cold temps, how do you tolerate it? Are there things you do to improve the experience?

dress for temps 20 degrees warmer this is so that you dont overheat. i use a wide headband to keep my ears warm and gloves. i guess it depends how hot you get and other factors like wind, rain, snow. Ive ran in temps as low as 15 degrees. if its windy i use like a base layer and windpants and also a breathable wind jacket. Im looking forward in running in colder temps, so much better than the heat!

I actually love running in the cold! I do wear layers....like a sports bra, tank, teeshirt, and outerwear (not usually jacket, just sweatshirt or something). Hat and gloves, running pants and depending on how cold maybe leggins or tall socks under the pants, but I'm usually good with just sweats.....For 30 degrees I might leave the tank top out of it...but I don't really overheat in the cold? Coldest I've done is 10. Just play around with what you are comfortable running in and judge it by how hot you normally get. And enjoy the solitude!
  • here in Alaska I'll work out outside until it gets to the double digit negatives... like -15 or lower. I layer a lot so I can shed them as I heat up. Gloves and a hat/headband are essentials! Warm socks too! And remember to hydrate often! The cold can make you not feel as thirsty as you really are and even though you're not sweating as much you're also breathing out a lot of moisture(the steamy breath you see) so be sure to stay hydrated.
  • oh and theres a mask or you could use a scarf to cover your lower face and mouth so your breathing in warm air, helps cut back on the dry painful throat you can get from the cold.

This will be helpful. I thought just my pants and sweatshirt would do this morning but my hands felt like ice and my ears ached within minutes. Thanks for all of the advice, guys!
