Archery - How does it measure up for exercise?
Hi, I've signed up for an archery course for novices. I can honestly say other than what I've read up on I know next to nothing about it. Just looking for some personal experience/feedback from folks as to the benefits. i.e. does it improve core strength, stamina, give an upper body workout & how effectively? Cheers…

hip & bone spurs = daily morphine. Roll with me?
Brother had a bike crash few years back. As a result he now can't do much in formal exercise. We've been going to archery recently, but anything that involves standing or walking over long periods wipes out.. Any ideas for alternatives?

Indoor bike stands - improvised spin routine?
I've been toying with the idea of getting a bike for the cycle paths near where I live. And possibly for the commute to work. However I'd like to double up on it's use during the winter months too. I'm wondering if a bike stand would enable me to do an improvised spin style routine at home? Adding in I haven't been on an…

Not bothering to date.. Its all frankly worrying..
I've been single for nearly 3yrs... My last dates have included; someone not calling me back for a month - when they did they told me they'd been clinically sectioned, & wanted to join the French Foreign Legion. A bloke who informed me his ex was blonde, so he was worried my "growler" may terrify him (we'll never know?), &…

homeopathy & other wacka doodle-ry.. are you a convert?
My co worker is - she tries to force fed me various sugar pills in the name of pseudo science every time I'm sick. Funnily enough the UK actually still funds homeopathic treatment to a pretty penny or two every year ( cheers Charlie!)... What do you reckon? Method in the madness. Or a load of old balls? *disclaimer - they…

The British are we a nation of half pints?
The notion was put forward in another post that people from the UK are in fact all apparently short. This was made in comparison to the US, & the idea was proffered that it may stem from the idea that US milk has growth hormones. I myself am 5'6" & amongst a group of female friends am probably the shortest by an inch or…

Gym Snobbery - are you unashamedly guilty
Someone on my FL just posted that they have signed up for a well known gym franchise. Now personally I think its excellent. Kudos to them for getting out there. However, it rolls back round to the age old debate. "Is my gym better than yours?" In all seriousness I don't care where, how, or what someone is doing to workout.…

dyslexics of MFP lets unite in the war against bad spelling
I see a lot of post disregarding peoples opinions based purely on spelling. I'm calling them out & stating; it doesn't really matter so long as you get the gist, & frankly if you don't. Then maybe its a personal problem not mine...

looking for ideas to expand hobbies & interest horizons
As of tomorrow I'll be finishing a beginners archery course. I've learnt many new things including; I have muscles in my back & I don't loathe sport as much as I thought I did. Whilst I'm debating whether to sign up for the club or not. I've decided to embrace the mantra "don't knock it till you've tried it". Bearing this…

Periodontal disease - any supplementary ideas?
I'm due a deep periodontal clean in the morning (lucky me I know). I've been having general 3mth deep cleans as a matter of course, but apparently that's just not cutting it now. I've tried upping my vitamin C with a supplement, I obviously brush after meals (not a total skank), floss, do regular courses of Corsodyl, & use…

Hi, I've been here for a while now. Just looking to add some lovely new folk to my FL as I've had to do a recent cull due to non participators. Although I'm definitely not a friend collector! I'm as the title says a chronic procrastinator, but I do drag myself in for daily roll call. I don't judge if you log 0cals burnt a…

Remembrance Day
RIP to all those who are fallen on Remembrance Day In Flanders Field In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. I'm genuinely interested in opinions on this. What's your view? *I Threw it out there as a random question really. Just wondered if people see it as something important to…

All raw meat diet
Derek Nance claims the extreme diet helped cure him of a "mystery illness that killed his appetite and made him puke up everything he ate," according to Vice. Nance describes some pretty strict rules for which types of meat he eats (locally-sourced, mostly lamb, never pork) and how he gets his vitamin C (from organ meat…

No heart attack but i'm off kebabs! - What put u off a food?
Feel a bit daft admitting this but on Friday night I did indeed think I was going to have a heart attack. Massive stabbing chest pain. Which infact turned out to be heart burn/indigestion. :blushing: This was much to my teenage daughter's horror. Mocking via teenagers is so harsh. However, the upshot/downside? It does now…
