Phone app not working on Apple
I’ve been having trouble with the phone MFP app for several days. It’s not counting steps from my Fitbit. Today I updated and uninstalled MFP on my phone then reinstalled. It has zeroed all my calorie entries for the past several days including today. The only way I can enter or view my food entries is on the website. Is…

MFP changing calorie goal setting
I am a petite person and have had my goal calories set to 1000 for several years because I have a slight metabolism. If I get a normal amount of steps-exercise (5000-7000), according to my Fitbit, I'm usually using less than 1300 calories a day, so 1200 with exercise calories would actually make me gain weight. Well, I had…

Calories from Fitbit different in phone app and online
I'm using s Fitbit charge and seeing a big difference in the calories burned between what shows on the MFP phone app and MFP online. Example, yesterday morning I did 1/2 hour strength training and a 12000 calorie walk. MFP gave me around 300 calories by noon then in the evening adjusted down to only 50. However on my MFP…

MFP not allowing installation of Fitbit
MFP wasn't syncing my Fitbit calories so I unlinked the accounts. Now MFP is not allowing me to install Fitbit and giving me a system error.

Difference between exercise calories from fitbit on mfp iphone app vs. mfp website
The iphone mfp app is showing fewer fitbit exercise caloriesthan on the mfp website on my laptop. In fact, sometimes the iphone app is actually subtracting exercise calories. For instance, today, I did about 8000 steps of walking, got around 280 calories, then did a power yoga class in the late afternoon, and it actually…

Warning to never eat below your BMR?
Some sources (and even posters here) warn never to eat below your BMR. However, isn't it necessary to eat below your BMR to lose weight? For instance, my BMR is around 1300 (age 55, 5'1.5") and MFP puts me at 1200, which is hardly any deficit at all, but of course it's unsafe for me to go below that number. And someone who…

MFP now giving very tiny adjustments from Fitbit
Like many other folks, I've been having issues with MFP and Fitbit Charge syncing for the past couple of weeks. Over the past few days it's syncing some calorie adjustments, but they are very tiny, usually under a 100 calories even though I workout every day. For instance, yesterday I got a 16 calorie adjustment for a 45…

MFP vs. LoseIT
I'm considering switching from MFP to LoseIt, and I wonder if any other users have experience with this App or any other free calorie counting app that works with Fitbit. The reason I'm switching is that MFP has not sync'd properly with my FitBit since the last week of February. Many other threads are reporting the same…

Marathon Workouts to Makeup for Sedentary Holidays?
So, I have a moderately active job (teaching at a large campus where I do a lot of walking), plus I work out. I wear a Fitbit and try to keep to 10,000 a day, or at least average 70,000 a week (so I might I have a low day where I do only 7000 and a high day where I do 13,000). Then I also do strength training 2-3 times a…

Milk question
So I was talking to a friend who looked really fit and toned, and she said when she's a few lbs. over, she gives up all dairy. She also told me that if I have dairy, I should drink whole milk, not skim or lowfat because it's more satisfying. She also said lowfat and skim have added sugar so that it will have an acceptable…

Drinking expired milk
So I had a gallon of whole milk in the refrigerator before we went on vacation. It's expiration date was the day we returned. It was unopened and I've been using it for the past week. It hasn't turned sour yet or started to separate, at which point I'll use it for baking. I'm starting to wonder if sell by dates are just to…

Celery Juice for weight loss?
I was in whole foods yesterday and this woman was buying several bags of celery. She told the clerk that she was following a diet book that recommended drinking celery juice every morning to induce weight loss. I had never heard any such thing, and always thought celery was one of the least nutritious vegetables, mostly…

Fitbit and MFP not Syncing
My Fitbit and MFP haven't been syncing for several days. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Fitbit to MFP, but still no luck. I saw a couple other users with the same problem, but checked the Fitbit Group thread, and there's no notice that there's a problem or fix for it.

Supporting spouse in diet
Finally, my husband, who is significantly overweight (actually in the obese category) has agreed to try an eating plan that will help him to take the weight off. It's one I posted about a while back, David Ludwig's [iAlways Hungry[/i]. Ludwig's theory is that many people who are overweight are constantly hungry because…

Fitbit not syncing with MFP
My Fitibit isn't syncing with MFP today. I did an hour zumba class, plus walked 2 1/2 miles. The fitbit says I have 14,000 steps and 1600 calories, and MFP actually took exercise calories away, so I'm down to 148 activity calories and an allowance of around 1280. Anyone else having issues?

Headaches with Lower Carb Diet
So, I've been following Dr. Ludwig's Always Hungry diet with my spouse. It's a lower carb, but not no-carb diet. No grains or starchy vegetables, except for beans and legumes are allowed. I'm also allowed dairy and fruit, except for bananas and higher GI fruits. I've felt surprisingly full on the diet and actually have…

Red Yeast Rice and Cholesterol
I just had my annual bloodwork, and my cholesterol is still a bit high -- 237, LDL 158, HDL 67. The practitioner said she won't put me on meds because the "good" cholesterol is high and my triglicerides are very low, 81 (which is below normal). However, she recommended Red Yeast Rice supplements in addition to fish oil to…

"Preparing" for a cholesterol test.
I have had an issue with moderately elevated cholesterol (over 200 with LDL over 130) for several years, although I am fit, normal weight, and in otherwise good health. Every checkup I get the lipid test and if my cholesterol is high, sometimes my doctor will try to talk me into a statin. So usually, before I have my blood…

Real Reasons for Obesity
This was posted in the NY Times wellness blog this week. According to Dr. Ludwig, weight loss/gain is not about CICO, but the real causes for obesity is our increasing reliance on processed carbs. Any thoughts?…

Is Fitbit still not syncing?
Is anyone still having problems with Fitbit not syncing with MFP? It looked like mine sync'd earlier in the day, but I haven't gotten anymore adjustments since about 3:00 today, despite a marathon trip to the grocery store and carrying multiple bags up and down stairs.

Extremely high heart rate after illness
So, over the past two weeks, I had a very heavy cold, lots of phlegm, coughing, even to the point of mild chest discomfort. During the time I was sick, the only exercise I did was walking and yoga, and if I couldn't go outside, 20 minutes on a treadmill at moderate pace. I'm now more or less recovered and back to heavy…

Am I the food Scrooge?
So tonight, I had a salad with my family because I had attended a holiday potluck at one of the places where I worked. Even though I didn't totally pig out there, I definitely went over my goal -- amazing how all those little things add up. So tonight, as the rest of the family is eating dinner, I was actually kind of…

Cutting for women who already have a low maintenance amoung
I'm 5'1.5" and have been at a recomp since early fall, eating at maintenance. I've been hovering between 120-123, and the profile picture is pretty accurate of how I look now. I might be around 28% body fat, maybe less; my last BF check was over a year ago, when I looked quite different (not as much ab def). I want to do a…

MFP estimates for TDEE too high for small people
I'm going into maintenance because I've plateau'd for about a year and am doing a recomp. I'm over 50, only 5'1.5" and around 120, but not losing anymore so eating at maintenance and doing more strength training to change my body shape. I'm using a Fitbit Charge HR which is showing between 1600 and 1800 or so by the end of…

Overexcersizing as form of OCD or other mental health issues
This isn't a problem I have, but I've had an acquaintance who has an adult daughter who is eating normally, but is exercising all day long -- going on long bike rides, running long distances, using a treadmill all day at home. At this point, she is not even working at a job, just working out all day. Apparently, she looks…

Fitbit counts yoga as time asleep!
I've been using a Fitbit HR, and it's tracking the time I do yoga as time asleep but restless! Obviously, the yoga is burning so few calories that it shouldn't count as exercise, but it makes me wonder what's happening to my heart rate during yoga. Could it be dropping so low that the Fitbit thinks I'm asleep?

Fitbit doing strange things
Today I had a typical work day, lots of walking on campus, dragging roller bag, and a zumba class. My fitbit by the end of the day was showing around 2000 calories and sync'd with MFP gave me quite a bit to eat. Then, when I sync'd again, the fitbit software went into some kind of update. After that, my total calories on…

Increasing fiber and metamucil
Based on the advice of others on MFP, I am now tracking and increasing my fiber. I had always assumed I got plenty of fiber because I eat lots of fresh fruit and vegetables and only whole grain products, but once I started following it, I am usually way below. So I've started to take Metamucil caps, but it takes 5 caps to…

A Delicate Question
So this might rank under the TMI category, but I have had a chronic problem with constipation, and when I stick very close to my calorie goals, I might go as seldom as once every 3-4 days, and then very small amounts. I eat plenty of fiber and even take a fiber supplement daily. I was just on vacation, not tracking, and of…

Calories, fat, and sugar and CICO debate with hubby
My husband's Type II diabetic, and last night we were at dinner, eating our salads. I had 2 kinds of dressings on the table, Marzetti Classic Ranch, which is 160 cal for 2 TBs, and Kraft Zesty Lowfat Italian, which is about 15 calories for the same serving. Hubby said that he had been listening to or reading something that…
