What does lifting "heavy" mean to women?
I see many women claim to lift heavy, and I am just curious what exactly this means? I know heavy can be 100s of pounds for men and can vary for both genders, but for women, what does heavy mean to you? Out of curiousity, what are you lifting when you do these various exercises? Edit: Poor wording I guess? No one is giving…

Do you eat bc it is "time" to eat or bc you're hungry?
Typical day at work: Do you eat your snack or lunch once you feel hungry or do you eat because it is "time to eat because it is almost 1 pm or snack time?" I'd like to entice some healthy debate. I often see people saying they only eat when hungry because they listen to their body.....or those who say they just eat to eat,…

Hormonal imbalance due to exercise and diet?
So, long story short is: I'm 26, been off of Depo after 13 years for going on 8 months now in hopes of having a regular/natural cycle/body. The doctor told me that it might take up to a year to get my period back (and I knew this because I once went 8 months in my teens years off of Depo and never had a period...and I…

I won my first race this weekend!
If I had ran Hero Rush in the elite last year, I would have placed 2nd. Therefore, this year I ran in the elite heat, and I won first place female! Overall, 14th place! I'm curious what body differences you guys see in me in the past year. I'm taking OCR over! It is mine now!

Pay for group fitness instructors?
I'm looking into becoming a group fitness instructor. However, I live in DC, so the pay that I hear around here is extremely more than I'm sure outside of DC. I'm looking to move, so this will be helpful. How much do you get paid, (if you own a gym) pay someone, someone you know get paid or instructors at the gym you go to…

Only in a year....
I can't believe only 1 year ago, last October, I was beginning the Couch to 5k training because my then boyfriend signed me up for a Thanksgiving Day race. I was scared out my mind that I wouldn't be able to run straight through the race. During training, I was hitting 5k at around 45 minutes, and I finally got down to…

Wide squat v. narrow squat
I did some Googling, which didn't help, and I searched the forum board, and there were no results for this, so: what are the benefits of wide squats v. narrow squats? As in which muscles are targeted? Anyway to do a squat which would target ab muscles at the same time? I have a pact with a friend to do 50 squats per pee…

Rebel Race MD-July 7-Who's in?
Well, lets just say all of my REAL friends SUCK. I asked everyone/someone to do the Rebel Race with me July 7, and all I heard was crickets. :grumble: So, is anyone doing the 15k race on July 7? If I have a few people I can meet up with and have fun with, I'll sign up solo and go! I've done 5k obstacle runs alone, but I've…

Possible LCL injury?
I believe I may have a sore LCL from outdoing myself 2 weeks ago in a race where I finally met my timing goal/speed goal. 6.8+ MPH. I was super excited. That was Friday, April 6. I don't work out on the weekends, so the 7th and 8th were a wash, but I had no pain. I started back out on Monday working out, and I was…

Reposting CDC stats because EVERYONE should see them
My original topic got locked...honestly for no reason. There were some very intelligent and eye opening comments coming through. And I want everyone to see the stats on obesity. I knew obesity was a problem, but just look through the graphic. VERY disturbing. This makes me sad. http://www.cdc.gov/obesity/data/trends.html…

Weird NSV--but VICTORY NONETHELESS
When I was in the shower this morning, I cut the back of my kneecap shaving in multiple places! I know, weird, but I haven't had a skinny enough leg to cut anything...well, ever. I mutilated the tendons that (now) stick out on the back of the knee. YAY FOR SKINNER LEGS! :blushing:

30 lbs gone *with pictures* Took almost 2 years but HEY! I
So, I wanted to make a before and after with the pictures I rediscovered on photobucket after I thought they were gone forever. I'm 5'2" and work out roughly 5 days a week for an hour to 1.5 hours. Being so short, 3 lbs either makes or breaks my clothes fitting! It is REALLY frustrating! As you can see from the pants…

I've come to love running--pictures included
I've been training for a 10k the past month, and for fun, I have mapped and am planning to try a 10 mile run next weekend :) I just ordered a Polar FT4 in order to more accurately estimate calories burned, and I needed to know what size strap to order, so I whipped out my measuring tape. I got curious about my measurements…

Polar FT40 v. Polar FT60
The 40 is $119. The 60 is on sale for $139 with free shipping. Seems like a steal. Honest thoughts and opinions on these two products? Something better out there? I'm going to quickly order one if you all agree it is a good deal. Normally over $200 for one! I'm clueless about HRM! Does the chest strap go on top of your…

Target HR v. max HR...and which one does what?
I found this article that says in order to find your target HR range take 220-your age then multiple by .6 to get the lower end then multiple the 220-age by .7 to get the upper range, but that puts my target HR at 117-136. I would even break a sweat with that, and all the comments say it is wrong.…

Most HORRIBLE run ever...please help!
That was probably the most horrible run EVER. It is about 40 degrees out, and it happened to be SUPER windy. 3 weeks off from running to 5k in 4 weeks
I just signed up with my boyfriend to do a 5k on Thanksgiving--4 weeks. I haven't ran in a few weeks because I have been focused on circuit training, and even when I was running, I was only up to 2 miles. What is the best way to boost my endurance? Should I just get back into running, doing 3 miles at a slow pace, so I…

Wave of helplessness and hopelessness is overcoming me
I'm having a wave of helplessness. I feel like every day is a struggle with weight loss. I just feel like if I ever want to get to my goal or if I want to maintain my goal weight, I'm…
