Do you cycle your tablets?

I have taken CLA, l-carnitine and ZMA non-stop for about 6 months, is this dangerous and should I have two weeks off and cycle them?

Considering two of the three tablets have been proven in studies as ineffective I'd say its probably most dangerous on your wallet. And with the thirds only positive effects being found in research funded by the producer, I'd be skeptical. If you've been using these for 6 months with no negative effects on health I don't see the issue, just personally I wouldn't take supplements proven to ineffectual.0 -

Here is some easy reading about the ZMA.
Too much zinc can have side effects. Worth reading.

I believe he's referring to the CLA and L-Carnitine. I've used CLA on and off, can't really say if it's effective or not, just finished 2 bottles and I'm done with it until maybe this time next year. I'm currently using powdered Acetyl L-Carnitine, first time using it, been on it about 4weeks, once again..can't say if it's being effective or not. I've been using ZMA for years non-stop...it works and no need to cycle.0

How about you do your own research before filling your body with something someone tell you will aide you in bodybuilding? All studies into CLA and L-Carnitine have shown that the claims made about their effects have no basis, unless the study is funded by a supplier or manufacture.0 -

There's tons of garbage information on Bodybuilding.com, especially on the discussion forums. Not that here is 100% accurate either. It's best to do your own research.3 -

Well said. "Someone said I should, so I did" mentality. A recommendation has no basis, scientific studies on the other hand.2 -

there's so much disagreement and bias on the internet though that it is hard to know which research to trust, some say they are efficient in fat burning others say they are a complete waste of time, you can't really win0 -
Here's one of the sources I use, it's fairly unbiased: https://examine.com/0

https://Examine.com I am likely to view this site for days. Awesome.
ZMA was a short honest review (not needed unless there is a deficiency in zinc and magnesium). CLA is the one that worked in rats but not in humans.

The main thing to watch out for is taking multiple elemental supplements at the same time, as they tend to compete for absorption [like zinc, iron, calcium, etc]. I think this also applies to ZMA, as it contains two elemental supplements [zinc and magnesium].0

I used to take lots of supplements due to being a natural bodybuilder. Found out later that that $200 a month I was spending was being wasted.
If you're getting your nutrients from the food you consume, taking more in supplements doesn't count as extra credit.
IMO, save your money or put it into hardware (belts, straps, chalk, shoes, etc.) that help you to increase performance.

The right information is out there, you just need to know where to look and make sure there is some science behind a claim and its not someone just voicing their opinion.
A bunch of BB on a forum will generally saying something works. They will take these supplements while simultaneously continuing a good diet and exercise regime, make gains and claim that the supplement worked, when in reality they would have probably made the same gains without the use of said supplements.
There are a lot out there that are effective but from the information I've read these supplements don't actually do what the claims suggest.

Never came across this before. Interesting website, thanks.0 -

I know that zinc on it's own can be dangerous unless you also take copper. You want to keep it at a 10:1 ratio. But don't start taking copper, because it can be a dangerous "heavy metal" for your body in large amounts.0 -

It just means that your body can't absorb all of it at one time. Most supplements contain huge amounts of said supplements to counteract this. Though it doesn't help if you're eating/drinking a food that's rich in an elemental nutrient along with the supplement [calcium in dairy is very notorious about this].0
