I'm pleasantly surprised I was still able to log back in with my old username =)
I need support and hope that this community can help me.
I feel so lost and confused. I don't know what to do, where to go. I have truly hit rock bottom and I'm so embarass - yes, I'm that 'sugar holic' girl who eats nutella out of the jar =(

mainly my problem is high sugar condiments like, the nutella, sweetened condensed milk, and dairy desserts like ice creme. i don't struggle with cookies, cakes, or flour based desserts as i'm gluten intolerant. but of course all this other 'nongluten' sugar is killing me, mentally and physically. i don't know where to begin, how do i break this cycle? it's again SO humiliating how much sugar i consume.

But I know you all will not judge me. for this I am SO grateful.

I would break it up into manageable chunks.

Addiction or not - you have a problem of wanting/liking to eat something you don't want to eat too much of. Calling it an addiction may or may not give power to the food, not to you. You need to make it so that you have the power. The food can't walk into your mouth. You are the one who puts it there. You basically have to pick one of two strategies:
    1) Don't have it around. If you don't have it, you can't eat it.
    2) Buy single servings and have one now and then, maybe once per week.
There are subgroups and overlaps, like just eating certain foods on certain occasions, just buying one serving of certain foods, only eating it directly after a balanced meal, etc. You have to find your personal strategies, maybe different for each individual food.

In addition to this, you may want/need to work on your attitude towards food. Are foods either good or bad? Are you afraid of sugar (thinking of it as a poison)? Do you sometimes feel guilty for eating? Do you deny yourself food to "make up for" eating more than intended?

You may want to look at your diet as a whole. Are you getting in a variety of fresh foods every day? Are you forcing yourself to eat something you don't like?

And finally, how is your non-food life? Are you getting enough sleep and rest? Fun and exercise? Meaningful relationships? Somewhat fulfilling tasks at work?

I also quit sugar. I replaced it with fruit and at first didn't worry about calories etc. As I was wanting to break an addiction. The first 4 days were the worst and then I felt totally fine with it. Then after 2 weeks I had another couple of bad days out of the blue but I didn't crack.
Part of what helped for me was educating myself on the dangers of sugar. Also like I said absolutely gorging myself on fruit and smoothies etc.
I truly feel amazing since cutting it out and my overall eating has improved dramatically. Just take each day slow, forgive yourself and keep your goals in mind.
You really aren't alone and you can do this if it's what you really want! Check out my IG if you'd like for my "deserts" https://Instagram.com/bigtinysteps or http://bigtinysteps.com/about-me/

The nice thing about fruits is that they have beneficial fiber and micronutrients that candy and cake don't have.

One thing to try is not eating your fruit all by itself. Make sure it is paired with a good shot of protein. If you have adequate protein and fat with every meal, it helps keep you satiated longer. Keep working towards choosing carb sources that are high in fiber.

You need to have a better understanding of the difference:

Try eating more fats; avocado, cook with oils (olive, coconut etc), have some nuts/seeds - handfuls or on some Greek yogurt and berries. More protein would help too. Increasing protein and good fats keeps you satisfied much longer and it might help with reaching for the Nutella....but if you do reach for it...let it go after and just try again. Good luck! It's very hard, but once you are off sugar it's like you become a different person - very freeing!
