Today was last day of my gym membership. I acquired about 800 lbs of plates the last few months and am really wanting a power rack in my garage. Found detailed plans for a homemade one online. Are these safe? I mean I can see if I was squatting 200 lbs but, when the weight gets over 300...I think it would make me a little uncomfortable. Power rack would be something similar to this.

The metal things on the back posts are the only things I could see being a problem, but in that picture I can't see them good enough to really judge. You could probably also use a denser wood to build it with, but for the most part it looks pretty structurally stable.

^ yeh...I think something else there could be used for the bar support. I guess I could just add a little caution and put extra support where I thought it was needed. I wouldn't want it tipping into the wall of my garage and the spotter pins I think I would use a solid pipe. was reading more in the link below.

Dym....here is the link to the site which has pdf plans. They said the cost would be under $150

I looked at some of those plans, then ended up buying one from Craigslist. I just felt safer doing that, and got a good price ($300) on the rack with weights, bar and bench.

You could secure it to the wall or ceiling with some ties to make tipping less likely.
