*kitten*: Gained 10 lbs in 4 days

I knew it was going to be an ugly few days as I had a guys weekend but got on the scale this morning and was up 10 lbs since Friday morning. Drank a ton of alcohol Friday thru Monday hanging out with the guys. I had hot wings, 2 grilled buffalo chicken sandwiches with fries, eggs, sausage and gravy & biscuits 2 mornings, pizza twice and a Wendy's spicy chik sandwich & fries. I was somewhat active golfing everyday over the weekend.

Hopefully these 10 lbs are mostly water weight and I can shed it easily.

I'm gonna go with a few lbs of weight gain and the rest being water retention.
  • Probably just water and poop. Your body really has to be doming something to gain that much in a weekend. Also -check your scales are correct.

yeh they will be most definitley water gains.

my weight flcutuates 6-12lbs during the normal week.. sometimes as much as 10lbs between the evening and mornings

if youre really interested in the overview of the science.. now im para phrasing so im aware someone might jump down my throat

from consumption to absorbtion in the blood , fat take approximately 3 hours, then a further 8-16 hours (depending on metabolism) for that fatty deposit to rest in the tissue. Now when it rests in the tissue it is initially only there temporarily, your body would draw on it as energy if needs be. Now while in this transitional state the tissue is also retaining more water. its only if you continually eat higher calories then needed that you will tranfer the fat into long term stored tissue.

as an additional FYI, 30 grams of fat is equivalent to 1 teaspoon of fatty tissue.

    approximately.

Mostly water weight. There's no way you ate 3,500 calories per pound x 10 pounds = 35,000 calories over maintenance (in 4 days). :)

Most, if not all of that is water and excess waste. I can fluctuate a good 3-5 Lbs day to day when I'm in my usual routine. If I have a big weekend like that I can easily be up 8-10 Lbs...lots of sodium and more food/drink than normal is going to lead to a lot of water retention and more waste than usual in the system. Give it a few days and I'll bet you're back to normal.

Also, did you fly anywhere? I put on about 8 Lbs every time I fly due to water retention.

Thanks y'all. I feel better now. Hopefully I will be back down after 3-4 days of my normal diet and exercise. I had pizza both Sunday and Monday nights and pizza I believe is a heavy food and has played havoc on my weigh ins in the past. Also had French fries with meals on Sat, Sun and Monday and the sodium will certainly affect my weight.

I did not fly anywhere but that is interesting that flying causes water retention.

What are the best ways to get rid of this extra water weight?

I probably didn't eat 35,000 calories over 4 days but I may have DRANK that much in alcohol - it was ugly. :drinker:
