Ok so I've been doin a 3 2 1 diet started on monday this diet is bascially 3 servings of protein 2 servings of veg 1 serving of fruit 1 serving of carbs and 1 serving of fibre a day but I have heard that protein shakes , bars etc are really good for weightloss and muscle tone but as I don't know a lot about them I'm confused I'm afraid that the shakes may make me gain weight instead of losing it I was thinking of have a protein shake or bar for one of my protein servings would this work I think its more a fear of the unknown as I would normally associate protein powders with men with massive muscles all I want is to lose weight and tone up can someone clarify the benifits of protein and is it good to use when trying to lose weight also I'm female 21 182 pounds looking to get to 119 pounds any information would be brilliant thanks

you will gain weight from eating more calories than you burn not from eating more protein via shakes, bars or any other form. I personally wouldn't replace a serving of real protein with a shake if you are getting enough in your prepared meals. Think of bars and shakes as suppliments; if you're not getting enough protein throughout your day or if you are looking for a little muscle boost after an intense workout, have a bar or shake as a snack.
