I was recently told I needed to eat more fiber. What is a good amount to eat daily? What are some foods to try besides the obvious grains? Thanks :)

Most fruits and veggies have fiber in them. I have tummy issues and need to take extra fiber stuff. Benefiber drink packets are soo tasty :)

A minimum of 30 grams a day for women. Bob Harper in The Skinny Rules recommends from 30 to 50 grams. My personal favorite is avocado - really high in fiber.

The average American eats 10g of fiber per day. I believe that 25-30g is the suggested amount. Most days I am able to get about 30g.

I try to make sure that any cereals and breads I eat are high fiber. Fresh fruits and vegetables will help too --- Blackberries and pears are top fiber on the fruit list. Beans are high too.

Check out the Full Plate Diet. It is a high fiber approach to eating. Their electronic book taught me a lot about high fiber foods.

You are pretty close today. You need 25-26 grams a day, until you are 50, then it is reduced to 21 grams a day.

I can suggest lentils, also very good in protein compared to most plant sources.

However... if your intake is low, around 10-15, and your goal is around twice that, increase your intake gradually, around 3-4 grams more every day accompanied with more water each day. This will save you from a few days of bloating and gas.

Five fruits and vegetable a day should do it. You are really close to five. No worries!

Raspberries, frozen or fresh, very high in fiber and also low calorie. Fiber One Cereal -Original has 14 grams of fiber in 1/2 c. serving for only 60 calories & no grams sugar. ( i snack on it dry ).
