You saw a fat person sitting on the beach today, eating a snack packet of dried fruit, and you felt moved to say, "How about trying an apple?"
WHAT YOU DIDN'T SEE is that I had just cycled SEVENTEEN KILOMETRES from my house to the beach, for the first time ever!
I was too polite to get angry with the passerby but I would love to have some new friends on MFP for support. If you've just started a new exercise plan, or you're at a similar point in progress, please add me
(Also, I cycled home that same 17km - it was a lot easier going downhill - which makes a total of 20 miles.)

Moments like that are hard just try to remind yourself that the most important thing is that YOU know! I try to remind myself of that all of the time!0
-
WOW...20 miles, You are SUPER, most "Fit" peeps can't do that. And I thought My NSV was good (No Smell to My gas or poop...which means I'm eating pretty healthful!)0
-
Damn girl, great work! You can be fit at any size0
-
good for you girl ;D0

I can't believe how rude some people are!!!0

I'm trying to figure out who the fat person is? I mean, it definitely isn't the person in the OP's profile pic. You ROCK!!!0 -
Oh my, that's horrible... f' judgmental people, you know what you're doing. And great job on your new accomplishment!!!!0
-
Pretty sure the person was telling me off for eating sugary food because I looked breathless and overweight... why else would you butt in on someone else's sitting-on-the-beach-watching-seagulls time?
And yeah, I'm stoked about surviving the new exercise - only managed 2/3 of the distance last weekend, so this is a big jump forward.
Thanks everyone :smooched: I knew MFP would come through!0 -
ohmygoodnes!!!! you mean someone actually said that?!?!?! how rude!!! it's a healthy snack too!!!!
Girl you did awesome on that bike ride! If I rode that far I'd have gone for the ice cream!!!! lol!!! YOU ROCK!!!! add me!!!!!!0 -

What's their problem, seriously I wouldn't have said anything if you decided to eat a doughnut! It's not my business!
Well done on the cycling! Amazing feat. Don't let some ignorant tosser put a damper on it. You did great0 -
People are pretty self involved most of the time. Don't let it get to you (if possible). When someone judges you it does not define who you are, it defines who they are.0

The passerby was a twit, and your day today was outstanding!0
-
Awe way to go xo0
-
That seems totally unreasonable that someone would do that! Dried fruit is awesome! I wouldn't have been able to keep my cool like you! Great ride too!!!!0
-
I would have said good idea and pulled out an apple from my bag and chucked it at their head.0

OWN IT! 20 miles is AMAZING! I can only do 9! Keep it up!0

Riding 20 miles is awesome.
As for comments such as was made by the passersby, this is how I see it.
-We can respond negatively with a negative attitude to their comment which doesn't really serve any purpose for the long term.
-We can ignore them and continue to enjoy the environment around us.
-We can respond with a positive attitude and educate them in the process. We could tell them that yes apples are delicious but dried fruits are easier to transport, are delicious and have more nutrients/fiber per ounce then fresh fruit because the amount of water in them has been reduced. Plus all of the other benefits of dried fruit.0 -

Is this true? No smell means you are eating healthy?
Good for you OP!! No need to lower yourself to their level. You are awesome!0 -

... followed by rocks from the beach! How ignorant! How dare anyone (esp a complete stranger) make a comment like that?
You ARE fantastic and don't let anyone tell you different! :flowerforyou:0
