Silence or music

I am looking into doing some longer distance runs soon, but have a slight problem! The rules and regulations state that you cannot wear headphones/earbuds. I have never run without music. Does anyone else run without? Any tips on how to do LONG runs without any distractions?

Where do you live that they don't allow runners to wear headphones? I've never heard of such a thing.

I do not run but what about earplugs? There is no music but will help block noises. Just a thought. Good Luck.

I never run without music. What rules and regulations say that?

most races I run in don't allow headphones, as well as the major marathons.

I'm a big fan of nature, so I stick with no headphones.

During our distance runs, headphones are not allowed. Of course, people will go ahead and wear them anyway, but most of these guys are just wanting to finish and wouldn't care if they got disqualified. Our roads are not pedestrian friendly. I know this because I've had friends tell me that they're not planning of winning the event, so they'll take the chance.

I don't run with music. I was trained not to and now find it distracting.

How to get used to it if you're not? Just get out and give it a try! I have a feeling you'll adjust well. The mind and body are amazingly adaptable things. You'll be quite focused on your breathing and striking and might actually find it helpful.

Thanks for your input! The race is on the side of main roads, and things like earphones and earplugs are not allowed to make sure that runners are aware of possible emergency vehicles. I am going to try running without, I have only made it for 21 minutes before I quit... determination... that's what I need!
