Any theories on why Michael Phelps recieved fourth place for the first time since 2004???

    Although I LOVE the first answer. . . for REAL, because that's the real answer. . . here's another one. . . he didn't bother to train for two and a half years after the 2008 Olympics. He only trained for 18 months. I'm thinking he thought he could just whip himself into shape. FAIL.

    everyone always has a slow down it seems. some people reach it earlier . yes, i know he's only 27 but maybe he peaked already.

    He's getting older for a swimmer, he and Lochte were the two oldest swimmers. He may not be training as hard as he used to. He parties just as hard, but trains?
