Do I need a polar foot pod?

I just got a HRM - Polar RCX3, and the G5 GPS. I use the GPS when running outdoors and cycling, but when I run indoors on the treadmill, would the foot pod be something I need? The treadmill tells me my speed and distance, so would the foot pod be redundant?

The GPS is AWESOME. It works great too, picks up satelites right away and hasn't lost asignal yet, and I live/run/bike in a wooded area. I love having my distance/speed info right on my HRM. It really pushes me to run faster, longer0
