Can I still lose 2 lbs a week with no exercise?

I am currently eating 1200 calories a day with no exercise. I have realized that for some reason when I add exercise I get a bit lazy , which is why I'm switching to just dieting. So what do you think? Can I still lose 2 lbs a week with no exercise and just dieting?

Depends on how far you are from a healthy weight range. I assume it would be kinda hard though.0

You have 35 pounds to lose.. which is not that much.
I'd bump down to a pound a week and see how you do... but I'd really try to do some form of exercise.
You lose a lot of lean muscle mass along with the fat when you just diet and don't exercise.. and then your metabolism goes down which means the more you lose, the less you can eat.0 -
2 lbs/week is difficult even with exercise.
I wouldn't quit exercising, just because its so much better for your health, and you don't want to be skinny fat, you want tone and healthy body, right?
Take your time, is a marathon, not a sprint, think about life style changes, not quick fixes0 -

I was burning a LOT of calories exercising (run, bike and swim), but when my bike broke I took this as an excuse to really take like 10-14 days off exercise completely, or very very little. I still lost 2-3 pounds every week during that time. Probably water weight, but it hasn't come back yet after another 2 weeks, so..
Yeah, diet is really important in the equation, more so than exercise by far, so really be diligent with your caloric deficit (and logical about expectations and goals too...) and you should see the weight coming off.0 -
Yes. Easily. As long as you are within your calories, you already have the built in deficit.
I usually won't combine work out if I'm doing 1200 calories because I feel like I don't have the energy most of the time. So whenever I know I want to start working out again.. I up my calories.0 -
why would you want to live like that? exercise is what makes us healthy.0

Okay and when I mean exercise without dieting I don't mean sit around all day doing nothing.... I'm usually decently active which is why I already have a decent amount of muscle.0 -

Uh no.
You need to lift weights/do some type of resistance training in order to preserve muscle while dieting.
Zumba is great for cardio.. but not for resistance.1 -
Are you active but don't like "exercise"?? Cause otherwise how are you well muscled???? If you are active then don't worry about typical exercise, if you aren't you should be doing something to tone. My endurance has improved but I found I was weak when I rejoined a gym and started lifting.0

I have found it's not easy to do. I think your body kinda goes into starvation mode and stores up some fats instead as you're not pushing it to really work itself and burn it off. You will still loose, but not as well or as much if you exercise. Plus if you ever want a treat you really can't as 1200 calories is not much AT ALL.0

With 35 pounds to lose must have a decent amount of fat so is not just going to lose excessive muscle mass. You should just do some resistance training though. Doesn't need to take a lot of time. Some push-ups, planks, squats, lunges etc.0

I lost twenty pounds at 1200 calories per week in about two months. Then I hit a plateau. You can get by for a little while (if you have a lot too lose) but eventually exercise is going to become vital.
Especially if you want to be fit as well.0 -
Last year I was surprised when I lost weight more easily and steady without excercising than in the past when I did an hour five days a week and some lifting.
I hate to admit it..but I think exercising slows my progress down. Right now I'm doing 1200 a day too..I've lost four pounds this week without excercising. But..I just started. Right now I'm going to just diet and see how I lose. If I slow down..I'll up my calories some and start excercsing. If I were you..I'd see how it goes...then change your plan if you're not losing.
However.. I think exercise is vital to be fit. I just want to lose the weight first then hit the gym hard Or if I stop losing..excercise gives me a place to go to jump start loss.0 -

of course the way you lose is your personal preference. i've been diligent about trying to keep as much muscle i can because
a)one of the best things about me having so much lean body mass is that i've always had a bit of a higher metabolism than what a formula gives me
b)i dont want to look all ooey gooey soft amd mushy once i reach my goal weight0 -
You absolutely can lose weight. Weight loss is mostly about your diet. But exercise has tons of benefits to mood, strength, etc but you definitely will lose weight if you stick to your diet.0

Too much higher intensity cardio and too low calories equals more muscle loss.0

That may happen in the beginning, but I wouldn't count on it staying that way. Your weight loss slows down with exercise, especially weight training, because muscle is more dense then fat. It's often more accurate to track your progress with your body measurements due to the fact that you may end up losing 3 pounds of fat then gaining 2 pounds of muscle. That being said, in the long run, the people who exercise tend to end up losing more from what I've seen. Having muscle mass burns more calories over time.1 -

When I stopped doing excersise so I could recover from an injury, all I had was my 2300 a day calorie diet, and I was still losing =]
So how about that, an actual personal experience, that proves the answer is yes.1 -
