I am having a hard time sticking to my calorie intake for the day. I am also having trouble figuring out how my macros are supposed to work.

I have my macros set to 40% Carbs 30% Fat 30% Protein right now. My daily calorie limit is 1500.

I am 5'6" 190lb and 27 years old. I have a sedentary job but am very active elsewhere.

I just want to know that I am on the right track here....I like carbs so it's going to be tricky to re-train myself.

Open up your diary so we can over advice! By the way, why the low-carb diet?

I've personally had great success in the past by simply cutting out REFINED carbs. Get rid of added sugar and processed grains... you'll find that makes the biggest difference.

Sorry. Diary is open now....I have been moving and getting used to being in a new place so my logging is very bad right now so trying to get a handle on it. As for why I am using 40-30-30, I am a shift worker and hoping that by cutting refined carbs that I can help my metabolism keep up even though I work crazy hours and am going through a lot of stress and change right now.

Okay, so a few things I'm noticing right away in your diary. 1. You're not eating any vegetables! Vegetables, aside from being nutrient-packed, are incredibly low-calorie. Because they are high in fiber, they will fill you up. 2. You eat a lot of refined carbohydrates (bagels, pasta, pita chips, goldfish). If you replace those with whole grains, you won't feel the need to eat as much. Or you can try cutting them out entirely. 3. You may want to cut out juice until you have an easier time keeping to your target. Juice is tasty and healthy, but it is also incredibly high in sugar.

Also, cutting carbs will only have an effect on your metabolism if you have a medical condition that causes carb sensitivity (diabetes, hypothyroidism, PCOS, and the like).

The general advice for keeping full at fewer calories is to eat a lot of fiber and protein, so eat more lean meat, add vegetables, cut out the carb-heavy snacks, and don't get flavored coffee at Tim Horton's anymore.

I agree with this. Sugar seems to be the problem more than the carbs. I enjoy vast amounts of wholegrain carbs to whatever amount I fancy. I'm not one for looking at macros, so long as I'm not eating junk I'm just watching the calories and nothing else.
