Low fat lunches that are easy to fix, easy to take to work

Any suggestions? I tend to get in a rut, taking the same old things. I could use some easy ideas to keep from getting bored. I have access to a fridge and a microwave at work. Thanks!

  • I really like the Weight Watchers Flatbreads (about 300 calories), so much I've been eating them for lunch and dinner a couple days a week! I usually pair one of the flat breads with vegetables. My favorites are made by Green Giant and are individual steamer bags. Most are about 100 calories and there's a lot of varieties. Both the flatbreads and vegetables can be found in the frozen section. Another thing I like is to make salads. I usually throw together a spinach mix, precooked chicken strips (found in the meat aisle, made by Oscar Meyer), diced strawberries and apples, low fat feta cheese, and fat free dressing. The salads are usually only about 200 calories so I pair them with fruit and a sandwich or something like that.

Good question. I hope more people answer because I could use some tips too. :) Here's an idea or two that I plan to use when I get back in full gear [I've done some of these in the past, and will again when I get in full gear for carefully watching what I eat (am waiting for the holidays to end) :)].

    1. Grill/bake/broil (however you like it) chicken on Sunday, cut up salad greens and whatever other fixings you like in salads, then take portions of the salad and chicken to work each day (or leave at work). It should get you through the first half of the week (I'm basing that on recommendations for how long you can keep cooked chicken).

    2. Make taco fixings and bring in the ingredients to put them together at work.

    3. Make fajita fixings and bring in the ingredients to put them together at work (can nuke the meat & can nuke the fajitas for 10-15 seconds, other ingredients don't need reheat).

    4. Leave apple sauce, yogurt, and fruit (e.g., apples, bananas, pears, tangerines, etc.) at work as snacks, but 2 or 3 of them together can be eaten as a meal.

    5. Different types of bread (wheat, honey wheat, rye, etc.) can change sandwich taste so if you change up the bread you use, and the meats and cheese, then eating a sandwich often won't feel like eating exactly the same thing all of the time. (E.g., honey wheat bread with honey baked ham takes AWESOME, and much different than on a regular wheat, and different than regular ham.)

    6. Leftoevers (Ok, I'm sure you're already doing that, but just in case).

    7. Oatmeal packets (why not for lunch?).

I usually take 1 or 2 sandwiches using weightwatchers bread. both slices are 100 calories. i take mixed veggies, Turkey Deli, Chicken Deli, Roast Beef or Tuna.

The tuna i make it my self. I get a can of tuna the one that is stored with water 60 cal half a can. and i blend it with different herbs and veggie. I take a food processor I add a can of tuna with onion garlic green pepper celery salt, black pepper and whatever herbs you like and mix the whole thing. i do not add mayonnaise maybe if you really like it try to use the light version of it.

Try to take snacks with you to work.
I use Kellogg's Special K bars and baked chips the bag is about 110 calories

I eat the special K bar in the morning, yes it does not seem much but it is sweet. just give it some time and it will hold you till lunch time
Then at lunch i eat my sandwich with a diet Pepsi and before i go home or on the way going home I eat the baked potato chips. Cooking dinner while i am very hungry is not a good practice.. I usually mess up the quantities.

Just think of your lunch as a good snack and your dinner at home is your major meal. This way you will have enough calories for your dinner and be able to eat whatever you feel like eating.

    I hope this helps:wink:

Thank you to those who posted! I will definitely use some of these ideas!
  • You can make lunch a larger meal which is what works for me. For breakfast I often do a bagel and fruit or a home made breakfast burritio.
