Asda Measure Up Shakes?

Options
Has anyone tried the Asda "Measure Up" shakes mix? I just bought the Cafe latte flavour tub for £4 and it's seriously yummy! I expected all whey/ protein shakes things to taste bleurgh lol. My gym sells the pure whey protein powder but it's pricey at £29.99 a tub, so do you think this is a good substitute? It'll be for shakes after gym sessions and when i'm under on protein for the day.

Sorry, but that's not a protein shake, that's a carb shake. Holy cow!! :noway:

Buy the whey protein powder--specifically, whey protein isolate powder (what you've got is a concentrate, which is lower in quality). If you shop around (try online suppliers too) you'll probably find a somewhat better price than at your gym. But even if you don't, if you work out the cost per shake you'll find it's a lot cheaper than buying ready-made rubbish.

A 30 g serving of whey protein isolate powder typically contains 27+ g of protein and 1 g (or under) of carbs. As you can see, it's almost all protein and hardly any fillers. Also it'll be sweetened with stevia rather than sucralose.

Seems it's only 1/3 protein - 33g per 100g powder whereas some are nearer 80% protein - so that has to be considered in the price per unit protein.

try the protein shakes at www.myprotein.co.uk, i get mine from here and they are much cheaper than buying in store. The mint chocolate and cookies and cream are nice but the strawberry is a bit too sweet for me.

Based on the nutrition profile that looks more like a meal replacement than a protein shake, you are getting alot of carbs in there

Don't buy whey from the gym it will be very overpriced.

    Have a look at

    http://www.myprotein.com/uk/products/impact_whey_protein
    or
    http://www.bodybuildingwarehouse.co.uk/bodybuilding-warehouse-premium-whey-protein-4kg

(i dont think the extra money for whey isolate is worth it, personally)

That has a lot of carbs in it, and not enough protein for a protein shake I think...

As above, that's very high cal for a protein shake.

I use myprotein - the flavoured whey is £14.99 per kg (less if you buy in bulk) and give ~19 grams of protein per 25 g scoop, ~1g carb and ~1g fat. I mix it with half water, half soy milk and the drink is 120 calories - far less than the ~400 you quoted.
