What Non-Scale goals do you set for yourself?

Just wondering what NS goals people set for themselves to keep motivated?

I generally use outfits to keep me working... even when the scale says nothing has changed I can try on the outfit and see how much better it fits :)

Right now I have my birthday dress hanging up on the wall to remind me that I need to be confident enough to wear a xs dress with no sleeves!

Please share your NS motivators!!

I get very excited when my belt goes down another notch. It's a great feeling.

I have been working in China for the past year. Next week, my husband and I fly home. I bought a beautiful dress to wear when we get off the plane... A lot of my motivation is focussed on wearing that dress and hoping I look healthier when I see my family again :)

Well, there are certain things that certainly cheer me up (like needing a new belt or to punch a new hole in the old one), but I wouldn't call those goals I set for myself.

Lately, I've just been taking up a karate class (after not doing that kind of workout for about 17 years), so my short-term goal is just to get through one of these classes without stopping to catch my breath... several times.

I'm wearing my NS motivator today. I bought a pair of size 16 jeans on Black Friday because they were on sale at Costco for $11. My size 18 jeans were starting to get a little loose at that point but I tried on the 16s and could even get them over my hips, let alone buttoned and zipped. Today, I wore my Black Friday jeans to work for the first time, they are a tad snug, but not obscenely so, and I look fairly fabulous!

There are another pair of jeans in my closet that while also marked size 16 are much smaller. They are my next motivator.

Honestly, I've moved away from letting the scale rule my life. I weigh in once a week only (I used to weigh every day). I'm a much happier person for it.
  • Good for you!! I'm sure you look awesome!

It's so good to hear people achieving their goals without letting the scale run their lives!

I don't really have a scale based goal any more. I have goals based on the amount of weight I can lift and miles run and times for various distances. I figure through the process of getting stronger and faster everything else will fall into line.

Non-scale goals are for a smaller waist and lower body fat percentage, as well as the reduction/elimination of those dreaded "love handles" which I sure in heck do not love... at all. I hate them.. DIE LOVE HANDLES DIE...

It is definitely wise to have NON-SCALE goals in mind, because many times, we set a number in our mind and don't realize it is totally inappropriate for our bodies!

I'm into the clothing "thing" as well ......

A few years back I was wearing 18 pants ....... also wearing my husband's XXL tees & sweatshirts ...... now I'm in 12 pants and S-M shirts, depending. Even my husband's lost weight ....... and he's given most of those XXL items away ......

    It's all good :drinker:

I want to be able to run a 5k without walking, wear a size 8 or smaller, and be comfortable in a bikini :)

I would be lying if I said I didn’t want to be skinny and hot. That being said, the two things that made me sad and want to start getting in better shape are both performance more than weight loss related. Two years ago I could spend the whole day in San Francisco, shopping, eating, sitting and watching the water and doing a ton of walking between all of those. I rarely took public transit and even more rarely a cab. A few months ago I realized I wouldn’t be physically capable of doing that for a day. My second is to better enjoy and be able to give back while doing a lil horizontal mambo.

    Resting HR around 60

blood pressure of 120/60 unmedicated (I hate genetics...thanks mom and dad)

    Seeing the abs unflexed

Be in shape to do dang near anything physically that I want (within reason).

maintain my healthy cholesterol while raising my HDL a bit (HDL was a bit low, but the HDL/LDL and overall levels were great)

Be accused of doing steroids again (love that when the strongest "supplement" I take is protein powder). i got this a lot on my past slimdown and shape up.

I always wanted to be a wrestler, I joined a training school a month ago and hope to have a match soon.
  • Jeans are a great motivation for me. I have a pair that i love. Currently too small, but I know that it's only a matter of weeks before they'll fit. And then there's my zizzy fay coat, that I look forward to being able to wear after having bought nearly 2 years ago!

Fit into my size 8 dress pants. - Done
Fit into my size 8 favorite dress - Almost there, can zip it up, but it's still tight
Do 12 standard pushups. - Done, new goal is 60 with no breaks, and 100 with breaks.
Do 25 unassisted pullups - Not even close! I can't even do one unassisted.
    Bench 130 lbs - Currently 90 lbs
Run 3 miles with no walking - Done
    23% Bodyfat - Currently 26%, started at 33%.

And the scale? It says I'm 10 lbs heavier than my 'goal weight'. I think I need to change my goal weight since I've met most of my goals. :)

I get very excited when my belt goes down another notch. It's a great feeling.

    This happened to me today.

I lost 5 lbs 2 weeks ago and today when I weighed myself I was still at 268.

    WICKED FRUSTRATING

    HOWEVER...

I had a few MAJOR accomplishments this weekend.

Like for starters... finally sleeping in bed with my wife after 2 years of me sleeping on the couch becasue I snored too much because I was overweight.

    Dropping a belt size.

Feeling bigger in the shoulders, arms, back, and legs.

    AND

my face starting to look like a human instead of an obese american.

    :)

KEEP AT IT! Even if you didn't loose lbs you probably toned up really nicely!!!

    My non scale goals are:

to be able to do regular (not girly) push ups, to do pull ups or chin ups, and to run a 5k without walking in 30 minutes. I can almost do the 5k, but not in that time yet. The push ups are killing me and I haven't actually attempted a pull up yet. I'm waiting for the gym to be empty to even try, lol. I'm quite embarrassed about my weak upper body.

I also have an old prom dress from my junior year of high school I would love to fit into again. I don't even know what size it is, and I don't care if it fits right, just that I want to get it on once more :). And if it does fit right then my husband has to get dressed up too and take me out!! He's already agreed to it, lol.

I mainly use clothing (fitting into clothes I used to wear or something I bought that is a little too snug). It has helped my motivation immensely. There isn't always a change on the scale but there is in my clothing.

I've also used full push ups as a goal. A current goal is being fit enough to hike up a mountain. I have weekly goals for working out that I must meet.
