My husband and I would like to start a family a year from now so I have decided to go off my birth control pills pretty soon. Just wondering what some of you ladies have experienced when going off of birth control. I have been on it for about 8 years so I'm just a little worried....since it has been sooo long.

I did not come off of OTC, but I was on Depo-Provera for several years, and the pill before that. When I came off (I decided to go with non-hormonal Paraguard IUD), I felt AMAZING. I had fewer headaches. I lost weight. My periods did get a little heavier, but not so much that I noticed a huge difference.

I was on ortho after my first son was born (17 years ago, mind you). I had been on it for about 4 years when I stopped it so that we could continue to grow our family. It took us about a year of trying after I went off of it to get pregnant with our next child. It was the highest dose birth control at that time, and it did take some time to completely clear out of my system. On the ortho, I had horrendous migraines (I suffered from migraines prior to birth control pills, but the pills made them much worse). The migraines started to dissipate after stopping the pills and over the years, have gotten much more manageable. I have also experienced irregular periods since then, on and off. Everyone's body reacts differently, so what I have experienced (or others may have experienced) will most likely differ from your experiences.
