I spent the weekend snowboarding and when i entered my calories - I was freaking dumbfounded on the amount MFP auto-calculates. So I went to other sites and yup, pretty much same thing. It's crazy. 6 hours of riding today gave me 2,350 calories burned. I do ride very aggressively - i hike backcountry a lot and even when just riding, when I hit the lift, I'm usually breathing quite heavily and I'm always too hot - but I didn't think it'd be that much (works out to be like 6 calories/minute)... do you think that's somewhat accurate?

I think MFP is pretty inaccurate on snowboarding cals burned. Yeah, it can agonize your legs in powder, but I think the numbers are overstated. And that's before taking into consideration that a good half the time will be spent on a lift or truck or snowcat or however you're getting back to the top, and then there's usually a few BS sessions sitting down and chilling, even if just while people strap in. So you can't just count all six hours you spent at the mountain.

Then again, I think struggling out of deep powder is possibly the most exhausting experience around :)

I usually just half the amount of time I was there at the mountain, since you don't burn a whole lot of calories waiting in line for the lift. That said I don't try very hard to eat back all those calories burnt. I will only eat/snack if i'm hungry, and I don't over eat.
