Ok, so times are really tough and I just happened to notice in the 99 cent store freezer section there are 1 pound pack of what is called Ground Turkey and Ground Chicken, so I have bought 1 of each, when I opened the package....it looks like mush, pattay.......spread. What is the difference between this and regular Ground Turkey? I can stomach the look and the smell is different, it taste alright, and once you get it cooked up it does crumble, not bad in spaghetti or bean suprise, tacos...just wondering what the deal is.....I mean the bottom line is I bought it for 99 cents.....and seeing as how $$$ is so tight, I am tempted to go get 10 of em. 240 cals for 4 oz.......wierd is all...I am guessing the look and smell is a turnoff, hence the 99 cent price tag.

I buy the ground turkey at Wal-Mart, the Jennie-O kind. It is really mushy as well, but like you said it cooks up and crumbles just fine. Although, I have never noticed a weird smell....:indifferent:

Yeah this is not Jenni-O, this is some off brand from some California Turkey farm I guess...the smell is not rotten, just not what I am used to, like I said it tastes fine. It reminds me of drinkin' powdered milk vs- whole real milk.......

I buy them most of the time too. I'm guessing that it's the same reason that frozen rolls of ground beef are less than fresh ground beef - the convenience factor. Also, I have noticed that sometimes the fat content & calorie count is different on the turkey rolls - maybe some of them use less white meat & more dark?

I just looked at it is Mechanically Separated meat, so hmmmm the last traces of meat. Still taste the same, but likely the bottom of the barrel so to speak....oh well, what can you do when you are hungry huh? 99 cents a pound......

it's just a lower quality cheaper cuts of turkey, sometimes the skins and cartilage are ground up all together with the meat thats why it's 240 calories for 4 oz.. If you can stomach it I say go for it girl...I personally can not, I get grossed out easily by smells and weird textures..lol

There is ground turkey, which as has been stated already, can be most any part of the turkey (except the feathers I hope:laugh:). Then there is ground turkey breast. I prefer the latter because it doesn't have the strong "turkey" smell and is easier to season into something that I feel like eating. The turkey breast will also be lower in fat and calories that the other.
