removing IUD and getting period again

I am about to have my Mirena IUD removed after almost 5 years and will be having my tubes tied. I have read so many horror stories about having the IUD removed, brutal periods (which I haven't had in 4 1/2 yrs) and worst of all, getting period again. I am 46 years old and was hoping someone out there had expereinced this before and could share their experience. Did you get your period again? Is it possible I am already menopausal and might not get my period again? any thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated.

I just had mine removed and then replaced about 4 weeks apart a few weeks ago. I haven't experienced any of that. i have had some bleeding but that's normal and much better than post-pregnancy bleeding.0
