Getting Ready at the Gym?

I was wondering if anyone had any tips if they go straight from the gym to work or school. If you fix your hair before your go, then just use a little dry shampoo on your roots, or wait and shower and blow dry and completely get ready at the gym. Just trying to figure out what is going to cut into my work out time the least, without really sacrificing looking professional.

10/10 this must be troll post.
I train this out of the closet guy, really great, has a lot of desire to get fit. This was a conversation between us:
HIM: Oh no I shouldn't have blow dried my hair, now its all poofy!
ME: We are here to lift weights, not complain about our hair, now lets go!
Your focus should be on your work out not looking pretty.0 -

unfortunately for women in the professional workforce this is a valid question since many women go straight from the gym to work, so chill out.0 -
When I have class after my workouts, I tend to pull my hair into a ponytail, put some dry shampoo in it to soak up some of the sweat, and then pull my ponytail into a bun. I then wipe my face with a face cleaning wipe and apply my makeup (no makeup while working out - bad for your skin and looks weird in my opinion). I then reapply deordorant and spray some body spray.
It's not perfect like getting ready at home but it's good for class.0 -
It sounded like she is going to the gym after work... if the the other way around try waking up X amount of minutes earlier, you can sleep when you are old its time to live now.0

I just went to a new gym for the first time today. I was surprised to see a woman in the locker room who seemed to have washed her hair, blow dried it, and was doing her make up. All at the gym. I guess it just depends on what you feel like doing or not. Obviously you have to plan out more time and bring more stuff if you want to do the whole shebang. I can't really give you any tips since I leave the gym gross and go straight back home.0

Yeah, I'm really a lady, and I'm really serious. I work closely with people, and I need to look nice and neat. *and smell good*I don't have childcare in the evening, so the only time I have to go to the gym is before work. I work out an get pretty icky. I'm new to this, and trying to have a healthier lifestyle. I was really hoping some women would have some tips. :-( Not DB men making fun of me.0

I shower at the gym and wash my face and all that jazz. I imagine if I was going straight to work after, I would get completely ready. I pack a gym bag/duffle bag specifically for the purpose of getting ready for the rest of my day at the gym. I mean, that's why they have showers, mirrors, lockers, etc.
I say get your work out in and then get ready if you need to. *shrugs*0 -
Your focus should be on your work out not looking pretty.
Um, the person is talking about getting ready AFTER their workout so they can go to work/school. Not getting ready to go TO the gym.0 -
Ignore the dudes being jerks.
When I go to the gym, I get completely ready there since I picked a gym on my way to work so I'd use it.
I shower there with shampoo and conditioner.
I don't always blow dry my hair and I don't wear make up
There are women at my gym who shower, change, blow dry, straighten, make up, and brush their teeth at the gym.
The brushing the teeth thing is a tad much in my opinion0 -
I just shower and get dressed at the gym. I got shortish hair though so no blow drying necessary. If you need to do that, then do it. but I can't stand to work out and then stay icky. plus, a whole day like that? no way.0

When I was hitting the gym before work (and I have to be at work by 7am) I had a bag with everything I needed to get ready (body wash, deodorant, etc.) and then just added the next day's clothes. One thing I do recommend though is getting a pair of flip flops for the shower. Maybe I'm just paranoid, but I really didn't want to get a foot fungus, lol.0

No kidding. Read the post before bashing the poster. Not everyone is a telemarketer that can go to work stinky and disheveled.0

I allow enough time to get fully ready after my workout. I know that I have to leave the gym by 6:45 am to get to work on time, so I have to finish my shower by 6:30. I need to be totally finished with my workout by 6:20 in order to make it happen. It just means I need to start earlier on the days I go to the gym before work. I am alone in the mornings at work, for about a half hour, so I get makeup on once I get to work. Everything else is done at the gym.0

When I do my early morning workout at the gym before work I shower and get ready there. That means shower, wash hair, blow dry, fix, put on makeup,,,etc. I am a professional businesswoman and not taking a shower prior to going to work would not even be an option.0
-
I get ready at the gym like I would if I was home-meaning I shower, wash my hair, dry it (or do something with it while it's wait style wise) do makeup and go. The only thing I don't do at the gym is brush my teeth cause I do that before I leave my house0

Before I had dogs and went to the gym before work, I showered and did my whole make up stuff at the gym... took too much time to go home again to do this. Luckily I live in a cube and people have to come talk to me to smell me now0
-
Valid question.
I pack my bag the night before and try to wash my hair at nights so I don't wash my hair at the gym, just rinse it out. My gym bag is chocka full and has everything I need to get ready to go straight to work after hitting the gym. It's funny becuase I can shower and get ready within 10 mins at the gym whereas if I was getting ready at home it would take around 25 mins. I guess it's because I can't change my mind about outfits because I have only packed one.
Sux when you have forgotten to pack a vital piece of clothing though (i.e bra) - aaargh!0 -
I get up early enough that I can hit the gym, and then go back home to get ready for work. I'm there at 0515, but home by 0630. Howeever, there are plenty of women there who I've noticed shower, wash their hair and do a complete 'get ready' at the gym. I have no problem with that. I just don't want to go through that. I'd rather get up earlier so I can return home. Go for it!0
-
Simple, if you need to get ready for work with a full-on shower wake up that much earlier
I get everything ready the night before including my entire outfit, all my shower stuff, work items and food for the next day. I even lay out my workout clothes on my bed so when I get up I'm literally out the door in 10 minutes. I'm on the gym floor by 5:30 AM, in the locker room by 7:20ish to shower and get ready for work... and in the office by 8 AM (usually :P)0 -
Get a rollup make up bag: http://makeup.lovetoknow.com/Roll_Up_Travel_Makeup_Bags and stock it with everything from your normal make up to the stuff you rarely use (ex: safety pins/tide stain sticks etc). Since you won't be at home to get ready, try and make sure that you have all the stuff you could possibly need. Pack at least 2 sets of bras/underwear as the bra you have in the duffel bag may not be the best for the top you have chosen to wear. Try out dry shampoo at home before you take it to the gym, some people find that they don't like how their hair looks when they use dry versus wet shampoo.0

To the children disguised as adults posting on this thread - I'm telling your mom.
Seriously, be happy for people wanting to live a healthy lifestyle. She's making it a priority and doing what she can to workout. Think of how many people would just use it as an excuse not to work out (I don';t want to get all stinky for work.)
Kudos to you, uh. OP since I forgot to read your name before I hit reply.
I have both taken a full shower, that's what they are there for. Blow dry and style my hair, makeup, deodorant, the usual AND brush my teeth. I guess it depends on your gym, but mine was clean so I treated it like my bathroom. They even had the vanity section with the big mirrors and lots of outlets and counter space to lay all your stuff out.
At work when I would go for a midday run, I did what another poster suggested. I'd wash my face, use body wipes and feminine wipes. Put on some deodorant, light body spray (nothing overwhelming). Redo my make-up, fix my hair and I was done. I was fine and my friends who are honest with me told me I didn't stink (trust, they would have told me if I did.)0 -
LMAO.......I wake up have a cup of green tea and some type of protien, then i go to the bathroom and rinse my face off and wet my hair with cold water. I then put on my bandana on shorts/muscle shirt and go workout. After I come home and shower. LMAO0

I typically go to the gym during my lunch hour. So, I have to be work ready in the morning, but also after my workout. I do have to shower and wash my hair, and blow dry after - but can do that in 10 minutes. I choose not to wear make-up, because I don't want to take the time.0

I'm the closest thing to a telemarketer you can get (tech support for a telecommunications company) and they require us to look professional. Just cause we are behind the phones doesnt mean we are gicky looking, we are sitting there with our hair done and nice clothes and yes...we do smell good.
To the OP, we bought a little travel kit at walmart that you can put your own shampoo and conditioner and stuff in, it had like 5 bottles. So I filled them with shampoo/cond./body wash/spray and I carried a little deodorant with me. I don't go to the gym. I carry that around with me. lol. I'm paranoid like that and I like to plan ahead. But I'm sure it would be more than enough for the gym as well and much smaller to carry.0 -
I would totally get ready in the locker room. I go to the Y and I just go home from there so I don't bother but if I had to go to work afterwards I would get ready there. I see women at the Y do it all the time and sometimes I see YMCA employees taking advantage of the locker room to change clothes and spruce up before leaving as if they are going somewhere after. That's why the Y has the hair dryers. Do what you feel comfortable doing! I think most people won't really care. Also I see a lady in my water aerobics class that goes to work right after and she gets out of the pool when we start the cool-down so she can get to the showers first (no waiting) and she's usually blow-drying her hair by the time I leave the shower.
Hey, at least you are working out! And even better, you care about not smelling like you just worked out! I'm sure your coworkers appreciate that, lol. good job and keep up the good work!0 -
I work out at home now but when I did go to the gym, I didn't do much for class but if I was going t work or going out I always just showered and did hair and make up there
Oh and I pad the 90 a year for a locker and towel service.0 -
Dude wtf? How would this be a troll post?
Anyway I would just shower after my work out and get ready there at the gym.0 -
i try my best to go to the gym 5 days a week & morning works best for me, so i totally get ready at the gym. Sometimes things do come up with the kids & i have to go after work, but then i can go straight home. It totally doesn't make sense to me to take a shower before going to the gym when i know that i'm going to get sweaty & icky - just my opinion. i live about 30 minutes away from the gym & the gym is about 2 blocks away from my office, so going back home after working out to get ready isn't an option. i have a BIG gym bag that holds my body wash, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, hair-styling products (being in Florida it depends on the humidity which product is needed on a day - LOL), towels, clothes, shoes, etc. i don't take a blow dryer with me to the gym & found out the hard way that the hand dryer wasn't a good option, so i get my hair pretty dry with the towel & then style it. i'm not a big make-up wearer, so it literally takes me about 2 minutes once i get to the office to do that. So far this has worked well for me & i get to the office on time without a problem.
Good luck to you on your fitness journey :-)0 -

Haha that wasn't meant to be a bash on telemarketers (or tech support for that matter. There was a telemarketing place near where I worked and when the employees were outside before work or for smoke breaks I swear the place looked like a bus station. Pretty much all the people you can imagine whose tattoos, piercings, or general hygiene would prevent from holding any other sort of job. I'm sure there are other telemarketing companies with higher appearance standards.0
