with people that constantly eat bad food and then they whine about how they want to lose weight, or they look like they should be losing weight? i'm jus finding myself losing patience more with my family who keep constantly eating garbage and then expect their situation to improve. when i think of my 11 year old niece being 180 lbs it pisses me off to no end. yes, my 11 year old niece weighs more than a few of you here as adults, and she's just in middle school, because my sister doesn't watch what shes feeding her. and jus now she calls asking my mom to go out and bring them a large pepperoni pizza and soda 10:30 at night. the girl doesnt need to be buying no dam pizzas! and what does my mom do? goes out and buys the pizza.
i'm jus venting cuz i'm po'd!

When I see a child like that, I get annoyed at the parent. It makes me feel awful for the child and all they will have to endure.
Of course I don't know all the issues at hand.
I just wish all parents and children had more education regarding nutrition.
The best you can do as family is try to teach them healthy alternatives.
Make a fun night out of home made pizza's on like a whole wheat flat wrap or something. Lead by example. Especially for the niece who probably looks up to you.0 -
I can understand your frustration. Since she's your niece why don't you try to get her involved in sports, or dance, or try to do some physical activity with her? She might like it especially if you do it with her. And take her out and get her some delicious healthy food to show her tasty alternatives?0

I totally understand your frustration, but this sounds like a great alternative!0 -
shes a very active girl; she's on the cheerleading team and has been so for years, and she goes skating every week with her friends religiously all year round. her mom has taken her to a pediatrician, and was instructed on what she should and should not be eating, but my sis follows it through for a few weeks and then she's right back to the fatty food routine, fried chicken, fried pork chops, etc. she stayed the weekend last week and i see the problem is overeating on top of what she's eating at home. i made taco salad last weekend and when i came downstairs the entire 8oz tub of sour cream was completely gone and no one had even gotten any yet but her. there were like 4 measely scoops left.
its jus that i feel powerless about it because we have already gotten on my sister about controlling her food intake and it does no good when she keeps overeating bad stuff at home. i feel like i'm jus talkin to a wall.0 -
I know exactly what you mean. I used to be friends with this girl who was constantly on a "diet" or at least said she was to validate her choices. "Oh, I ran two miles today, so I'm not going to feel bad for eating an entire gallon of ice cream" and then she'd wonder why her weight would go up or she'd crash diet, lose a few pounds, go back to her old habits, and gain even more weight. Then she would get all moody with me because my weight basically stayed the same no matter what I ate, not to say that I was thin, just average(I'm working to be more fit and healthy now though!). Her "dieting" actually ruined our friendship because I was sick of all the talk about weight and calories.0

It is so hard all you can do is show her by example and fix healthy food for her when she is with you and try to show her what serving sizes actually are. Maybe just by acting like you are talking to yourself.
As for people getting mad at parents over children that are overweight . Sometimes it is the parents fault and sometimes it is the kids fault. My 14 yr old daughter is only 4'9" and weighs 135 lbs. I cook healthy food, limit their portions or try and show her by example. I go swimming , walking and bike riding with her . I am even taking her to a zumba class this week. But any time she the chance she overeats, she has stolen food from the cafeteria at school cookies mostly and also whenever we have a family get together i get busy visiting and she will eat like 4 helpings and has been known to have a piece of cakes, 3 or 4 cookies, 3 cupcakes and 3 or 4 brownies all in one evening.0
