when to turn off the Heart Rate Monitor?

Just a quick question:
I just got a HRM and have used it a few times...love it. But, when do you turn it off after a work out??? I do a lot of classes, both cardio/weights and strength training so, I know that, when I'm done, I'll still burn a bit, so I usually leave it on until I leave the gym.
However, tonight, I forgot to take it off when I got home (starving and needed dinner ASAP ) and by the time I DID take it off, I had gone from 550 burned to 670! Is it okay to count that? I mean, it was a weight/cardio class, so there is afterburn...
what do you think? when do you take your HRM off?

my HRM supposedly only counts calories when my HR is above 100. so it wouldn't make much difference past 15 minutes after exercising. i may keep it on for stretching, but then i take it off (usually because i take a shower )
as for counting those extra calories. not sure. if your lifestyle setting is set to sedentary, you'd count cooking as an activity, if you're active, it's part of your daily allotment... i'd look at afterburn (or supposed afterburn) as a bonus. just my opinion though...0 -
I only wear mine during cardio workouts never during strength training and I start it when I begin my workout and stop it right before my 5 minute cool down......0

I just got mine recently too.
My workout is on the weight machines, and I do them pretty briskly. After I finish working out, my heart is still beating at around 120-125 and I am drenched (sorry if TMI). Anyway, I cool down, walk at a leisurely pace back to the dressing rooms, sit down and then I stop my HRM and look at the workout statistics and so on.
I think you should complete your cooldown, but if you are recovered enough to dress then I think the workout is done. Well, at least that is when I turn off my HRM.0 -
I have thought the same...I turn mine on when leaving the changing room and stop it before I get in the shower...I use it for my whole gym session..so cardio and weights as I tend to mix my session up...0

I turn mine on right before I begin my workout and stop as soon as I stop. I don't like to let it run after I'm done because I don't want to count those calories burned as part of my workout. I use it for both weights and cardio. I like to time my rest between sets but if my heart rate drops below a certain level, I'll start my nest set earlier.0

I don't use mine for weight training. For cardio, I turn it on when I start the workout and stop it at the end of my cooldown (essentially at the end of the workout).0
