Yoga for beginners???

I want to start doing yoga...what my walmart has available is Jillian Michaels Yoga Meltdown and Element Hatha & Flow Yoga For Beginners...which would be better? I know Jillian is tough, and I think I am up to at least attempting it....but I kinda like that the other comes with 2 dvd's and a yoga strap kit.

Well, level 1 of Jillian's yoga DVD is available for free on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q5nyrD4eM64 if it looks like something you would like or be capable of, go for it. Otherwise, the other DVD is probably better for real yoga vs. Jillian's.

Just get whatever and start doing it. Every yoga video I've seen has a person doing a less advanced version of the positions that you can follow as you work your way up to following the most advanced person in the video. Even if you can't do the easy version, do the best you can and I promise you'll get better each time you try to do it. Even if you completely flop, who cares? You're alone at home watching a video so no one will see you. Even if you fail in a class, who cares? Keep trying.

I used to be one of the least flexible people around, but I kept at it each week until I got better at everything. Just do it.

Actually, Jillian's level 1 yoga is pretty easy! :) And you can modify all the moves to make it even easier.

With all the stuff you can find on Youtube... why buy anything?? You should check it all out!
Search for any type of workout stuff on there.

Check out Weightless with Kiya she's got great stuff too!

I think Wii yoga is amazing. Worth the buy. It measures your balance so your form is correct.
  • I am a huge fan of the Jillian Michaels dvd Yoga Meltdown.. I also love how level 1 and level 2 focus on different parts of the body (I found level 1 was more arm focused). Give it a shot. Do you have a Body Balance class around where you live at a gym? That could also be a nice place to start too.

I would do that, but the computer is upstairs, and my 'workout room' is in the basement. Is there a way to save it to CD?

I have Jillians yoga meltdown and while it is a good workout, it's not the kind of yoga I prefer. Of course I might think differently because I was used to doing bikram yoga. I haven't found a new studio since we moved, so for now I just do youtube videos, or sequences that I've built on yogajournal based on my needs.

I WISH netflix in canada didn't suck so much. there's like zero workouts on there.
