Need stories from new moms...how to get back on the wagon?

Hi all,

I've been away for a while, a year to be exact. I left because I got pregnant last June and gave birth 5 months ago to a baby girl. I was an obsessed MFP fan before and with the support of my friends on MFP and pure die hard determination, I lost close to 25lbs. I felt amazing...then I got pregnant. I wasn't on my best eating behavior when I was pregnant and I also stopped working out. When you go through a whole year not eating right and not working out, it's so hard to get back into it. She's now 5 months old and my weight is exactly what it was when I was fat two years ago and it's just depressing to see in the mirror. This time around, I even have hideous stretch marks all over my stomach which even when I got fat, I never had before...

I want to start again but I just want to comfort eat because I'm so tired and stressed out from being a new mom. Are there any new moms on this that are already back on the healthy train and can tell me how you find the time/energy when you're up at 3am/5am/7am to do a feed and then throughout the day? I don't sit around all day. I use what time I have to do house chores and bits and bobs so whatever little time I get, I use it to eat breakfast/lunch (normally at 11am/4pm).

I'm tired to feeling fat...I remember this feeling and it's horrible but this time, I simply don't have the energy or the determination to do it...how do I fix this...what do I do...?

I'm sorry you're going through this, but I'm glad I'm not the only one! I lost almost 80 pounds before I got pregnant, and like you I stopped working out and didn't have the best eating habits. Towards the end of my pregnancy I was horrified to see the scale so close to what it was before I started my weight loss. Granted, I lost a lot of it the few weeks after giving birth, I am still up 24 pounds from my pre-pregnancy weight and I still had more to lose when I was there.

I'm sure you have those days like I do where the exhaustion and stress can seem overwhelming. It sounds like my son is only one month older than your daughter (he was born on Jan. 29). It has been very difficult to get back in to the swing of things, but it is possible. Use play time with the baby as mini-work out sessions. Hold her and do squats, or hover over her on the floor and do push ups while giving her kisses on her nose. Maybe even sit her on your tummy and do small crunches. Have you started taking her for walks in the stroller? It's been pretty hot here, but maybe an early morning or late evening stroll with her would be nice. It's surprising what a little bit of fresh air can do to the spirit.

Also, have quick, healthy meals at the ready. I usually have a variety of steam-able veggies in the freezer. 5 minutes in the microwave and you have a healthy side dish. We also purchased a gas grill for quick weeknight grilling. If you have a significant other that's willing to help, see if they're willing to split the work. I usually make the sides and send my husband out to the grill (he loves it).

I hope these tips help and if anything just know you're not alone! Feel free to add me as a friend if you'd like. :)

I'm not a new mom, infact, I've been a mom for nearly 4 years now. BUT, i'm in this same place. I'm "newly divorced" & i've definitely struggled this past year with "comfort eating". I desperately need to get back on track. We can do it together....again :)

    MissAnjy!!

How have I missed our JM ***** sessions!

God it's so hard...it's so so hard! My baby girl turns 5 months old this Thursday so I'm using that as my starting date. Doing 30DS again and hopefully I'll stick with it. You wanna do it together or are you on some superwoman workout routine again?

Hi Sabs: Thank you for your reply and the tips. I think an important part is definitely cuz I'm just too lazy due to the tiredness but you're right, I just need to start little by little!

Been checking out the MFP community again and it has sparked a bit of motivations!
