Does the Fitbit record all your exercise including aerobic? I heard it only records steps when walking but I am not sure if this is true or not. Thanks for any input

    Hi there-

My experience with fitbit was interesting. I had some inconsistency that made me questions the accuracy or approximate of the calories burned. I am looking at my old fitbit log right now. I started to use a general pedometer again and I wanted to see how it compares. Below are my not so great feelings with fitbit and I would love it if people respond an explanation. Hopefully these responses will also benefit you in your decision.

    1. Fitbit doesn't know how much effort I am exerting if I am walking with a load or just walking empty handed or up a hill or up stairs...basically because it doesn't have an HRM option it only knows that I am walking fast or slow. this will off set your calories burned.

    2. doesn't work with biking, ellipitical or other cardio equipment or strength training very well, mainly made for walking or using stair stepper. Like others, I also tried putting it on my shoe while doing various cardio and it would over estimate or sometimes it' looks like under estimate.

3.looking at my previous records I noticed that there were days where i had 19800 steps and i burned 2331 and then on days where I got in 15000 steps and burned 2331 I mean there's quite a difference between 19800 and 15000. or better yet one day i got in 13300 steps and burned 2071. That's when I sold my fitbit. It appeared so inconsistent.

    4. other than the extra (sleep tracker and stairs climb and inaccurate calories burned) i wasn't seeing the benefit of the fitbit. I mean wouldn't be just as great to get a triaxis or even if they have a multiaxis pedometer and be able to obtain similar results by finding a website that converts this into calories burned? i.e. nutrition data has a steps taken chart that you can use to calculate your activity level for the day, you simply need to know how many steps you've taken for the day to calculate this and it appears pretty close to fitbits, except more reasonable calories burned with higher steps taken. Again it brings you to the intensity question, but I actually found this to be reasonable somehow...not sure how they do it but when I had a body bugg and I compared it with the steps taken it was reasonably close.
